Maverick

"So, she convinced you to ask her out?"

"Technically, she was asking me."

"Well, congratulations, dude. Because I also got with her friend and so did Tyler."

Tyler smirked. "We all hit the jackpot with these girls."

"Yeah."

"Aren't you happy?"

"I mean I guess, but I told her that I wanted to take things slow considering everything that I have to deal with in terms of Lexie."

"Why do you care what she thinks?"

"Because she's having my kid, Dale."

"You'll need to step up to the plate then, Mav. Put your big boy pants on. Did you tell Mya?"

"Yeah."

"And?"

"She seemed fine with it."

"Well, that's good then?"

"Yeah, I guess."

*** Two months later: "I want to meet your parents."

"Really?"

Mya nodded. "I know we haven't been dating for very long, but I would love

to meet them."

"Well, I can give my mom a call right now and ask."

Mya smiled. "Okay."

I dialed my mom's number, and she answered on the second ring. "Hi, what's up?"

"Are you guys busy tonight?"

"Not at all, why?"

"Mya wants to meet you guys."

"Oh, wonderful! What kind of food does she like?"

"She's pretty open."

"I'll make a lasagna. What time are you coming?"

"How does 6 sound?"

"Sounds great, see you later."

"We're going to their house at 6 for dinner."

"Finally! I can hardly wait!"

"I didn't think you would be that excited to meet my parents so soon."

"Are you kidding? You're my boyfriend Mav, I want to meet every family member of yours."

"Good."

"I can't wait!"

"Me too."

Later that night, I picked Mya up, stunned by her beauty. "What are you looking at?"

"You."

She smiled. "Thank you."

The moment I got to my parents', I felt my heart race. All I could hope for was for my sanity.

"Maverick!"

"Hi, mom."

She smiled at Mya. "You must be his girlfriend."

"I am. I'm Mya."

My mother smiled. "Do come in."

She was politely greeted by my father. "I can easily say that she is an upgrade, Maverick."

"What do you mean?"

"Compared to Lexie, Mya is a 10 out of 10."

Suddenly, I saw my phone ring. "Mav, where the hell are you?"

"I'm at my parents' house."

"You need to be at the rink."

"For what?"

"Are you serious? We have practice for an hour then we have to get to the airport for our game at Anaheim tomorrow."

"Oh, shit. Well, I'll meet you in a few."

"You better."

"Um, excuse me guys but we have a game that I kind of forgot about."

"Can I come?"

I looked at Mya and smiled. "I'm going to practice, I'm sure that's something you are not into doing."

"Are you kidding? I would love to!"

"We have an away game."

"I can't come?"

"I'm afraid not, sorry babe."

"When will you be back?"

"Sunday."

"Well, I'll miss you."

"I'll miss you too."

"I'll go watch you at practice though, I don't mind!"

"You can stay with us."

Mya looked at Callie and smiled. "Really?"

"Sure. We have an extra bedroom. Besides, I'll help you get Mav off your

mind for a few days."

"Alright, fine I guess."

"I'll be back before you know it."

"I know, but I will still miss you."

"Likewise."

I knew Mya was bummed, but I had to solely focus on my career. She was on the backburner at the moment.
