Maverick

Guilt washed over me after I had finished. Despite what Mya has done to me, I cheated on my wife. With my best friend.

"That was... wow."

I looked at her and nodded. "Did you enjoy yourself?"

"It was amazing."

"Good, I'm glad."

"Mav, I know what you want out of this."

"What do you mean?"

"We've been best friends for 25 years and the feeling of telling you how I truly feel about you would ruin our friendship, but I know now that all you want is to just use me."

"Excuse me?"

"You're almost 28, Mav. I really thought that you'd be ready to settle down with someone."

"Jay, I have had a lot going on lately with Mya and my personal life."

"What made your wife any different?"

"What do you mean?"

"You cheated on Lexie with her, what made you want to marry Mya? I am sure she was a one-night stand too."

"I didn't cheat on Lexie, we broke up because she was controlling."

"Well, I am sure that Mya was a one-night stand for you too."

"No, she wasn't."

"Sure, she wasn't."

"I made a mistake, Jayden. I don't want to break your heart or put your hopes up, but I made a really shitty mistake."

"She's cheated on you, why does that make you guilty?"

"Because I feel like shit knowing what I've done behind my wife's back."

"It just really hurts hearing you say that. I just gave myself up to you and now you think it's okay to just use me like that?"

"Jayden, we didn't have to do it if you didn't want to."

"I thought you liked me!"

I knew Jayden was hurt and it was probably heartless of me to act this way, but I had to focus on what I had to do to deal with Mya. "I just have my career to focus on."

"And your wife."

"I am sorry, Jayden."

"God, I was such an idiot even sleeping with you!"

"Things happen and I hate myself for this."

"I'm sure this meant nothing to you, right?"

"I just really don't want to ruin the friendship that we've had and two, I don't want to end up hurting you."

"Yeah, okay. I really wish I could believe that."

"Jayden, the only thing I can offer is to be just friends at the moment. Maybe I will want more eventually, but I have to focus on my wife and my kid who will be here in a few short months."

"Whatever." Jayden got out of my bed and got changed. "You're just like the others."

"What are you talking about?"

"Hockey players. You're all the same just tossing girls out like trash after you get an hour of pleasure."

"Jayden..."

"I am sure you'll forget about this by tomorrow morning." She opened the door and slammed it shut behind her.

I hated hurting girls' feelings, especially Jayden's considering how close we are, but I was in no state for a relationship dealing with Mya's drama and Lexie's pregnancy. At the end of the day, I needed to focus on myself and figuring everything out.
