Maverick

Several weeks passed and Mya had decided to have our wedding sooner than I planned. JJ and I have not spoken since that night, nor did I have any reason to. "Are you ready to go?"

"Yeah."

"I know you didn't want to have our wedding this soon, but the regular season starts next month, and I want to spend a little more time with my soon to be husband beforehand."

"Okay."

"Shall we go? We need to get ready."

"Yeah."

"Why the hell haven't you confronted her yet?"

I looked at Tyler and scowled. "I'm waiting for her to tell me."

"Do you really think she would want to admit that? You already have the proof you need, all you have to do is confront her."

"Easier said than done."

"Is it?"

"I can't just go through all of this shit just to turn around and end things."

"You really want to be married to a lying cheater?"

"No, but..."

"You're getting married in less than an hour."

"She'll be confronted, just... not yet."

"You really need to think about what is best for you."

Shaking my head, I threw the beer can in the trash and finished getting dressed. "Let's get this done and over with."

Dale raised his eyebrows. "I don't like that look on your face, Mav."

"It's the only one I got."

Seeing how beautiful Mya looked slightly took my mind off of everything that had gone down, but all I could do now was put on a fake face. "You look beautiful."

She smiled. "Thank you. You look pretty handsome yourself."

The moment the reception started, I changed and went straight to the bar.

"Hey! Congratulations!"

I looked at my dad and nodded. "Thanks."

My mother smiled and hugged me. "I am so happy for you guys!"

"Thanks, mom."

"Is everything okay?"

"What?"

"Mav, I can tell something is on your mind. What's going on?"

"Nothing."

"Are you sure?"

"Mom, I'm fine."

"Hey, baby! I am so happy to be your wife now!"

"You wouldn't cheat on me, would you?"

"Never!"

How the hell can she even look at me straight in the face and lie? "I need to go."

My mother scowled. "Why?"

"I have um... I got a phone call from the coach. He said it was important, I'll see you later Mya."

"Okay."

The moment I got back to the house, I changed and heard my phone ring. "Who's this?"

"You deleted my number already? That's a shame."

"Umm..."

"It's Jayden."

"Jayden who?"

"Oh my god, Mav. It's Jayden Haddonfield."

"Oh. Hey, Jayden."

"Hi!"

"Umm why are you calling?"

"Well, I'm back in the area and I figured that maybe I could come and see you?"

"I guess so."

"What's your address?"

"32 Rodeo Drive."

"Got it! See you soon, Mav."

Once Jayden arrived, she smiled and hugged me. "Long time, no see stranger. I've missed you!"

"Likewise. Would you like a drink?"

"Beer if you have it."

Nodding, I went to the fridge and grabbed two Coors Light and handed one to her. "Thanks."

She sat next to me and smiled. "So, what's up?"

"A lot."

"Such as?"

"Well, I was engaged, or I should say married today."

"Oh, congratulations."

"I knew it was a mistake though."

"Why do you say that?"

"Well, she cheated on me with one of my teammates two months ago, but I also recently found out that she's been seeing another teammate of mine."

"What a whore."

"Yeah, tell me about it. She acted like she loved me when we first started dating and knew that I would never cheat yet she turned around and did it to me."

Jayden shook her head. "Fuck her, Mav. You deserve better."

"I didn't feel that way until now."

"Have you confronted her?"

"Not yet."

"What the hell are you waiting for?"

"I don't know. I'd feel like a total asshole if I did it tonight, especially after all the time it took for planning and everything."

Around 2:30, Mya finally arrived, and she scowled at me. "Who is she?"

"I am his best friend."

"And what the hell is she doing at our house, Mav?"

"She just stopped by."

Mya scowled. "Are you sure?"

"Yes."

"Well, we have packing to do. We're heading to New Zealand tomorrow."

I could sense the slight irritation on Jayden's face as she left, but I couldn't simply end our marriage. Not yet.
