MELISA SAT OPPOSITE Amber, listening as she went on about being sober and doing better. She held her coffee mug between her hands as she listened.

"I've been going to these meetings," Amber went on. "For a month now." She pulled something out and put it on the table. It was a chip. She was telling the truth about being sober.

Melisa was glad she was sober, but she hadn't forgotten the pain she was put through. "You hurt me."

Amber nodded. "They told me that my addiction would harm the people around me too. That it's not easy to be with someone who is an addict."

Melisa almost rolled her eyes at her words. Amber was right about what she said, but it's not what she meant. "You hurt me. You physically hurt me."

Amber looked down for a brief moment. "I know," she mumbled. "But I was at a low point in my life, and I've told you I'm doing way better now. I'm sober. I'm taking care of myself."

"It's not good enough."

"I won't hurt you. We were so good together, Elle. Before the ugly parts." Amber let out a sigh. She tried to reach for Melisa's hand, but she pulled away. "It could work this time around. Please, just give me another chance."

Melisa grabbed her phone and wallet. "I have to go." Amber watched her walk away.

"HEY, HERMANN, lieutenant tests are coming up," Capp reminded him. The paper was on the board. He sat at the table. "How many times you take that thing?"

Gabby looked at him as she ate her food. "Capp, really?"

"Ha-ha, you mean how many times did I fail it?" Cruz laughed at Hermann's comment and attitude.

Melisa turned to Hermann with curiosity. "How many times did you fail it?" He shot her a look, but she just smiled in return.

"The answer is three, but not since the 90s. Five kids is all the aggravation that I need. I know my place."

"Hey, lady in the house," Peter announced as he walked in with his mom. She were carrying groceries. Everyone greeted her, and some went to bring in the rest of the groceries.

BODEN WALKED into the conference room, where everyone was. "Our house has been under the microscope lately. Everyone in this room has handled the various intrusions like the professionals I know you to be. And that is why 51 is still going strong."
