SIX WEEKS HAD PASSED since Shay died, and nothing was the same anymore. Going to work and not seeing her there was challenging- especially for Kelly, who was the closest to the blonde.

The second person it affected the most was Melisa. She moved in with Shay and Kelly shortly after she started working with them. And they lived together up to her death. Melisa and Shay had fallen for each other without realizing it, and by the time they did, it was too late.

But they had to move on and continue without her. They had to keep working. Hermann walked past the ambulance. "Hey, Otis, can I get you to do the bank run tomorrow? I got a doohickey at the in-laws."

"Yeah, Hermann, one thing you'll never have to worry about is asking me to take money to the bank for Molly's."

"From your lips to God's ears." Hermann pointed up. He looked past Otis and spotted Peter making his way over. He had been injured on that call six weeks ago, and he was back to work. "Oh-ho! Look who's here! Peter Mills!"

They went up to Peter, greeting him and welcoming him back. Peter grinned at his friends. He was ready to get back to work. "I have never been so happy to see so many ugly faces."

Boden walked up to Peter. "I'm surprised to see you."

Peter shook his hand. "Cast came off, they cleared me. Hinted I should wait another week, but I am done staring at ceilings."

"Well, maybe you should listen to 'em."

"I'm a hundred percent, Chief. I'm good as new." Peter got into a fighting stance, playfully throwing punches at the chief. This gained some chuckles from his fellow firefighters.

"Great to have you back."

Peter glanced between them briefly. "Any word from Severide and Bishop?" Some walked off when he asked this. Everyone remained quiet.

No one had heard from either of them since that call. They had been taking time off from work for the last six weeks.

CASEY SHUT THE door to his truck, his eyes wandering around the farm. He had talked to Kelly and tried to convince him to come back. Then he went to Melisa's farm, where he knew she was staying.

Melisa saw Casey approach the house from her bedroom window on the second floor. She knew someone from the firehouse would show up, and it made sense to her that Casey was that person.
