[ season two, episode ten ]
CRUZ MET UP with Melisa and Otis outside the firehouse. The two decided it would be better to get to work together since they're roommates. "I just can't believe Zoya up and left."Melisa grabbed her bag and joined the two as they started off toward the firehouse. "Maybe it's for the best," she told Cruz.
Otis voiced his agreement. "You guys were racing the clock to do this. That's never a recipe for success."
"I really dug her," Cruz told them. They could tell he meant it.
"She liked you too."
"And just when I felt like things were falling into place with my brother. And now he's gone too."
"Look, Zoya did ask me to give you this, okay?" Otis grabbed something from his bag and handed it to Cruz. "She said, please don't be mad at me. Or at least she said," Otis switched to Russian. "Which roughly translates to that."
"Check it out," Melisa said when she noticed the people gathered outside the firehouse. The three approached the group to see what was going on.
Boden was speaking to them. "And trust me, we have done everything we can to try and save this house."
"Where's the next closest one?" A woman asked. "Five miles away? What's that do to response times?"
"It doesn't help. That's for sure."
"So, how do they justify it?"
"Like most things, it comes down to money." The woman's son went over and greeted Kelly, who had saved his life a while back.
"All of you," Boden continued, "I want you to know we share your concerns about the neighborhood. We've always been a neighborhood house, and we... we're sorry." He sounded genuine, and everyone could hear that. A woman stepped forward and hugged him, thanking him.
