"I'M THE BUILDING manager," a man told the chief as he ran out of the burning building along with everyone else. "We got a kid missing. On the third floor."

"The other tenants are accounted for?"

"Yes, sir. All of them."

Casey took in what was happening and then shouted out orders. "Mouch, Cruz, and Bishop south entrance. Hermann and Gabby grab irons. We'll take the north."

Everyone got their assignments and got right into it. A woman ran up to the chief. She was frantic. "My uncle, he fell down the stairs! His leg's hurt real bad! Can you help him?"

"Where is he?"

"He's down the block. Real close here." The woman pointed to her house. Squad stood by the chief and listened. They were waiting for orders.

"Casey!" The chief called out to the lieutenant, who was getting ready to enter the building.

Casey stood. "Chief?"

"Truck 81 is being redeployed. Grab your EMS gear and accompany this young woman down the block."

"Chief, we got a kid trapped inside a burning building!" As if it wasn't obvious. Casey thought this was ridiculous but knew why it was happening. The chief obviously didn't like him.

"Did it sound like I was asking?" Kelly looked at the chief. He thought it was ridiculous too. "Truck 64 is two minutes out. Move it!"

Truck 81 listened, despite how stupid the order was. They grabbed the gear they needed and went with the girl to help her uncle.

The uncle had a sprained ankle and refused treatment. By the time truck got back, squad had gotten the kid out of the building and into the ambulance.

The chief told Casey the fire was under control and ordered him to return to the firehouse. "Hey, we got this, tough guy," Welch taunted him.

Melisa and Gabby turned when they heard a scream. A man flew out the window and landed on the ground. They were by his side immediately as they called for a second ambulance.

The man went back in for the kid and was trapped- that was what he was telling Melisa. "Sir, stay with me," she said to him. This wouldn't have happened had they not been sent away. "Stay with me."

They got a C-collar on him. The second ambulance arrived at the scene, and they took over. Gabby informed the paramedics of what had happened before the man was taken away.
