CASEY LOOKED UP at the balcony, where a little boy had his head stuck in the metal railing. His mom was doing her best to hold it up as she yelled out for help.
Kelly went up to Casey. "That railing could give out any second. Mother won't be able to hold him for long."
"Jump bag?"
"He won't survive that fall with that thing around his neck."
"Boden's tied up on an accident investigation."
"You take command."
"Control the aerial. You fly up it," Casey ordered. "Cruz, Otis, go. Hermann, Bishop, and Dawson, stairs. Prep for forced entry."
Melisa made her way to the building since there were only two sledgehammers in the truck. Gabby grabbed one and was ready to follow Melisa in, but Casey stopped her. "Dawson! On his hip means on his hip. Not ahead of him."
"Understood." Hermann had agreed to let Gabby shadow him instead of Casey. She waited for Hermann.
"Let's go. Move it, candidate!" Gabby followed Hermann into the building.
When Melisa reached the apartment that belonged to the woman and her son, she had no choice but to force herself in. The door was locked, and they needed help. She rushed over and helped the woman hold the railing. Kelly was on the aerial, holding it.
Hermann told Gabby to stand back, and he approached the balcony. He grabbed Melisa's jacket, so she wouldn't fall forward or lose her balance.
Kelly talked to the boy and tried to keep him calm. Casey then showed up. "We straighten it all the way, we could break the kid's neck," Hermann told him, his voice low.
Casey brought sewn webbing, securing it around the railing. He handed another webbing to Gabby so she could secure it at the door. Hermann took over, though.
He grabbed a sledgehammer and knocked it on the wall in the hallway. He proceeded to secure the webbing around the handle.
They tied the ends of the two webbings together, securing the railing. "Secure," Casey told Kelly.
Melisa let go of the railing. She held the kid's hand, and Casey covered him with his jacket.
Kelly cut the metal bar and pushed it enough so that they could get the kid's head out.

"HEY," Brett walked up to Melisa, smiling. "Can I talk to you?"
