Dreams and Nightmares

The world was in multicolored neon hues, which hurt Kel's eyes. He looked around, surprised to see himself seated on a checkered picnic mat, along with Aubrey, Basil, Mari, Hero and Sunny. He stared at Sunny and questioned his choice of clothing, but quickly looked away. It was rude to stare. He turned his gaze towards Mari instead, as his eyes lit up, he stood up to walk towards her, but fell down through a black inky chasm in the ground.

The air ruffled his hair as he plummeted through the chasm, and strangely, he didn't feel scared. He was falling, but how could he be sure that this wasn't Alice in Wonderland all over again? He hoped he wouldn't have to wear a dress and stockings.

He landed in a different world, which he recognized as Faraway. He was standing outside Sunny's door, which looked the same as always. He stepped towards the door to knock, but the door creaked open, so he walked in. Sunny was waiting for him, near the kitchen counter, and was holding a knife. He walked towards Sunny, smiling sheepishly, as he whispered softly,

"Hello Sunny."

Kel was aware that his voice could be loud and annoying at times, so to make sure dream Sunny was happy, he kept his voice low. Sunny walked toward him, and held Kel's face between his palms.

"Sunny, what are you do-"

Sunny had kissed him.

Kel turned red, and jumped back a couple feet, while Sunny continued to close the distance between them. Sunny's face was only a few inches away from Kel's when it deformed and melted. The space around the two boys turned red and black, as a howling sound seemed to echo around Kel.

Sunny's voice could be heard through the howling, screeching:

"Why didn't you save me, why didn't you try harder?"

The same message repeated over and over again, as Kel was made to watch Sunny's face melting and deforming.

Then he woke up.

Kel sat up, his face tear stained, and looked around. He was in his room, and Sunny was nowhere to be found. His Mind went blank. Sunny. I need to check if he's okay.

Kel jumped out of bed and ran towards the stairs, making his way down two steps at a time. He was halfway down when he slipped, and fell feet first, towards the ground.
