Left Behind (Suntan)

Dust

As Sunny explored the new world he was presented in his dream, Kel was having nightmares. The same phrase: 'Who are you scared for?' Repeated in his head throughout his nightmare. He's could feel himself falling, like the dream he had the night he got hospitalised, and found himself in Sunny's backyard.

The sky was blood red, and he was standing next to Aubrey, Basil, Hero and Sunny. He glanced at their faces and saw them staring up at the treehouse, with no personality in their face. He followed their line of sight to see.....

Mari.

Mari hung from a tree branch, a skipping rope tied around her neck. Hair hung over her face, covering everything except one of her eyes. She's staring at me. Kel thought, and quickly looked away.

Hero stepped forward to study her body, then turned to Kel, his eyes full of indescribable rage. "You should be sad that Mari's gone." Hero whispered. "WHY ARE YOU NOT SAD?" Kel winced at the sudden rise in his pitch, and put his hands over his ears. Hero, seeing this, shrivelled up and turned to dust.

Kel took his hands off his ears and looked at them small pile of powder where Hero was standing before, and shrugged.

Aubrey steppped forward to look sat Mari's body next, then turned to Kel, her bat suddenly in her hands. "YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE UPBEAT FOR ALL OF US!" Aubrey cried, tears spilling out from her eyes. "YOU HAVE TO BE HAPPY ALL THE TIME, NONE OF US CAN AFFORD TO BE HAPPY, EXCEPT YOU." Aubrey stated.

Kel nodded nervously, in full agreement of her words. What she's saying is right. I've got to be happy for all of us. Who's gonna do that if I don't? Kel thought. Aubrey, seeing his agreement, stopped crying, and vanished.

Kel stood still, bracing himself for the next person to talk.
