Chapter 8: Hiding

When we got out of sight, Cedric gave me a good hug, relieved that I was alive.
"How have you been?" I asked Cedric, when he let go of me.
"Well, we've been going from place to place, but no one has gotten us. I don't know how they've been getting our location, though."
"Do you speak of You-Know-Who using his real name?"
"Well- yeah, you mean Vol-"
I slapped my hand over his mouth.
"It's Taboo. They've placed a trace on it, so everytime you speak his name, you'll reveal your location to him."
"Ahh, I wish I knew that sooner," he sighed. "But, Jynx, I missed you. What happened to your face?"
"The Carrows. Death Eaters who teach here. When we disobey them, and let me tell you, we don't do different, they hurt us. But it doesn't matter. I can't go to the lessons anymore. One of the reasons that I was in there was that the Carrows had enough of us."
"Where will you go, then?"
"The Room of Requirement, of course. But first I need to get my things from my room."

"Wow!" Cedric suddenly said.
"What?"
"Since when are Dementors watching over this place?"
He pointed to the sky. I hoped they hadn't seen us.
"Since a short while ago. Come on."

I Apparated with Cedric to my common room.
"Wait here," I said, and rushed upstairs to pack my things. It wasn't much, most of my stuff was still at the Burrow, just like my wand, I realised. Tomorrow, the students would get back from the holiday, so it was quite empty in the school.
"Can you Apparate to the Room of Requirement?" Cedric asked when I came back.
"I don't know. Let's not try."
So I Apparated with him to the corridor in which the room was hidden.

"Are you not going back home?" I asked Cedric.
"Why? It's much safer here, I reckon. I'll send my parents a message that I'm safe, and they don't speak You-Know-Who's name anyway, it was mostly me, so the Death Eaters won't get their location anymore."
I nodded.
"Okay," I sighed awkwardly. "Erm- we need to get in, because a lot of people are after us both, and we don't want to get tortured again, so please let us hide in there."
"You reckon that'll work-?" Cedric started, but the doors already became visible, and I pushed them open, and shut them behind us immediately.

It looked exactly the same as how I last left it. I put my trunk on the floor, and sat in a chair.
"Oh, can you help?" I said.
"Sure, with what?"
"I don't have my wand, but I'd like to let everyone know that I'm safe now."
I pulled out my coin, and Cedric tapped the words 'R Requirement, CD, JB' on it.
There was a limited amount of letters we could use, since we could only transfigure the existing numbers into the words we wanted.

Then we talked about what happened on both our sides, and I didn't tell him that we had been having contact with the trio. It wasn't relevant now. But we would have to call them back to see if they're okay.

We couldn't just leave the Room of Requirement now, so all we did was sit there and talk, there was a toilet in the room too, but no food. At last, when night fell, we fell asleep on the tables. Everyone would come back the following day, well, not everyone.
At the end of the next day, the door suddenly creaked, and opened.
"Nev!" I said happily, although energyless, since I hadn't eaten anything since I was captured.
"J! You're okay!" Then he saw Cedric.
"Huh? Ohh, right I forgot, you were here as well. How are you?"
"Fine, just escaping Death Eaters, really, and now hanging out with Jynx."
He gave a chuckle.
"Cool," Neville said.

"Did mrs Weasley let you and Ginny come then?" I asked, as Neville gave me my wand back, and set our trunks on the floor.
"No, only me," Neville answered. "She wanted to keep me and Ginny there, but I told her I had to go to you, so she let me go, but she kept Ginny home."
"Oh, pity," I said. "Have you got any food? I'm starving."
"Actually, yes, I thought you might be hungry, so I took a bunch of stuff from the trolley. It's not real food, but better than nothing."
He pulled sweets from his pockets, and Cedric and I were really grateful for it.
