We were back in the fight, and my rage and grief made it easier to kill and eliminate Death Eaters, giants, and whatever they had for us in store. I just brought down another unknown Death Eater, in the darkness of the night, while actually I searched for Bellatrix, who I still wanted to kill myself, when I caught sight of the trio again. Exactly when I wanted to shout where they were going, since they seemed to be in a bit of a hurry out of the fight, pain in my head and darkness overtook me once more.
"Neville! Cover for me!" I yelled blindly, since I couldn't protect myself if I couldn't see anything.I saw Hermione and Ron, in a dark room, standing by someone, while Harry kneeled by the same person. It was Snape, and he was bleeding. Something was going on. Why had he been struck? Did Voldemort do that? Did he think he was on our side or something, or did he just not need him anymore? I couldn't place my finger on it, but I knew that if I had a vision about saving someone, it couldn't be someone entirely evil, right? The trio was going there. Why? I had no idea, but when I could see my real surroundings again, I took another potion from my robes, and got as close to the trio as possible.
"Hermione!" I screamed. "Catch!"
She caught the bottle, luckily, and I added: "You'll know when you need it!"
She nodded, took a look at the label of the vial, and went on. I hoped it worked. In the meantime, Dementors had also started to come down.
"Expecto Patronum!" I yelled to them, but it did nothing. I couldn't think of anything happy. I thought of Cedric, who was there, right there, when I first cast my Patronus. I had been thinking about him. And now, all I could think about was this terrible battle, all the deaths, and Cedric. Who was laying in the Great Hall. The emptiness was terrifying. What would I do without him?
He was there, he helped me, with the first Dementor I ever encountered. He was the one I could trust beside Neville. He was the one who asked me for the Yule Ball. He was the one I saw as my one true love, young as I was. He was-"Expecto Patronum!" I suddenly heard from beside me. Neville had his wand out, and next to his silver lion, I saw a magpie, of Fred. Life came flooding back to me, and I snapped back to reality.
After a while, all of us stopped in our tracks. An ice-cold, pitch-high voice came into my head, and I believed in everyone's head, and made me shiver, despite that it was May.
"You have fought valiantly. Lord Voldemort knows how to value bravery. Yet you have sustained heavy losses. If you continue to resist me, you will all die, one by one. I do not wish this to happen. Every drop of magical blood spilled is a loss and a waste. Lord Voldemort is merciful. I command my forces to retreat, immediately."
What? Why would he do that? But the answer came quite quickly."You have one hour. Dispose of your dead with dignity. Treat your injured. I speak now directly to you, Harry Potter. You have permitted your friends to die for you rather than face me yourself. I shall wait for one hour in the Forbidden Forest. If, at the end of the hour, you have not come, then battle recommences. This time, I shall enter the fray myself, Harry Potter, and I shall find you, and I shall punish every last man, woman and child who has tried to conceal you from me. One hour."
My normal hearing returned to my ears, and I saw the Death Eaters retreat from the castle, and we returned back to the castle. I finally had the chance to use my potions, which I had done twice already, but I wished I never needed to use them. But people needed help. Neville searched with a group through the castle for fallen or injured, while I helped Madam Pomfrey and Hannah to heal what we could.
Lavender had been brought in, still alive, but barely, and apparently attacked by Fenrir Greyback. I gave her one of my potions, and hoped it would work. The hospital wing would become really full after this battle was over. Actually, that depended on the ending of the battle. I realised that Harry was still unaware that he might actually have to die, so maybe he would have to give himself up to Voldemort. Would he do that? He wasn't around, so I couldn't stop him.
