John
I'm lying here, holding my beautiful wife after making love to her. One arm is around her shoulders, while with the other, I fiddle with her fingers intertwined with mine. Our faces are mere inches apart. I don't think I've ever been this happy. Or this in love.
Yes, we have been together for over two years. Yes, I have loved her the entire time. But now, my love for her is so full and so strong. It must be because I am determined to love her right. I cannot lose her ever again.
A myriad of thoughts roll through my mind, mostly about Allison and her family. How she has been dependent on them for the last six weeks because of my stupidity. Will she be able to return to England and leave them behind again? Or will she want us to live here? I'm not sure I could do small town America. But I will try if Allison wants me to.
It is still and quiet, as the only sound is our breathing. Allison looks into my eyes so deeply, and I return her gaze. We are in love. I reckon we always have been. And we have a beautiful boy who loves both of us just as much. I miss his little face.
"When do we need to get Jack?" I ask, hoping to see him soon.
"Mom said they will keep him overnight," Allison grins and then leans in to kiss me.
My girl is hungry for me. These two months apart have been tough on both of us. But I understand why she did it. I needed to be brought to heel. And she has been successful at it.
The baby within Allison is moving about, and I feel it because her stomach is against mine. I let go of Ally's hand and place my hand on her belly. The baby gives the new pressure a kick, and it makes me giggle.
"She's strong, isn't she?" Ally says.
"She?" I question as my eyes meet Allison's again.
She nods and says, "She. It's a girl."
"I thought-"
"I wanted to know, so I asked. We're having a girl, John."
The moment sweeps over me as my heart feels like it's about to burst with happiness. A girl. One of each. I could happily end our family with these children, as they are a perfect family. Yet I know we probably won't stop anytime soon.
"I want you to pick the name this time, okay?" she offers, and I kiss her as I roll her onto her back.
"I'll think about it," I say as I move on top of her.
I lavish myself on my wife. I want her to know, without a doubt, that I love her and that no one else matters to me. Not as much as Allison. She is my life.
"John," she rasps in my ear as I move within her.
After the second interlude, we get up to eat the dinner Allison has made for us. I have missed her cooking as I have been living on pasta and takeaways. She gently smiles as she dishes the meal. She's happy we've reconciled. I know I'm thrilled as I've missed her so.
As we eat, Allison tells me how much Jack loves spending time with her Mum almost every day. While it makes me happy that he loves his Grandma, it makes me sad that he will miss her when we return to London. But I know he misses Grandma Taylor, too. It's something to consider.
"And what about your Dad?" I broach and see Allison's face change.
"Dad never was a hands-on parent, so he's the same with Jack," she explains, but I don't think that's the whole story.
"I'm sure he's not happy that I'm the father of his grandchildren," I say, and Allison pauses.
"Dad is a tough cookie. I love him, but after what he did to you... We've barely spoken," Allison reveals.
