As John holds both me and Jack, I feel so happy and loved. I know things have been tough lately, but we'll get through it if we lean on one another. We'll be okay.
As time passes, Jack's nightly bouts of colic get better. Soon, he's not only less fussy but also sleeping longer at night. Thank goodness, because I'm exhausted. Plus, John needs his beauty sleep. The Duran Duran engine is in full throttle right now.
The first single from the new album, Liberty, has been released, so there is promotional work for John to do. The band has been traveling frequently, so it's just been me and Jack. I've spent time with Yasmin, and it's been great reconnecting with her. I missed my friend while I was holed up in the house with a newborn. But I miss John more.
Duran has been to Italy and America, but soon, they will return to England for promo work here. In late August, they are scheduled to go to the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. I suppose not long after that, they will go on tour. I worry about how that will affect John and me. It will be our longest separation since last year. But I think we'll be okay. If John stays sober. I'm quite sure he's been drinking and partying while he's away from me.
I've been toying with the idea of returning to modeling. Now that Jack has settled into a routine, I think I could work a few days a week. It would give me something to do while John is away. And shoots usually aren't very long, so I could probably take Jack with me. If there's a longer day scheduled, perhaps Yasmin could watch the baby for me. Or maybe it will be one of the few days John is home.
On top of it all, Mom and Dad are driving me crazy to meet Jack. I think he's still too young to go on a plane, and they don't want to fly to England. So, they have to settle for my letters loaded with Polaroids of my sweet boy. Jack looks so much like John, it's crazy. Even Mom has commented on it. But he has my green eyes, and I love it.
I've just dressed for an afternoon out shopping with Jack when the phone rings. I put the finishing touches on my lipstick and then hurry to the phone. I answer with a cheery hello.
"How's my beautiful wife?" I hear and squeal in delight at John's voice. "Missing me, I reckon."
"Like mad, baby. When will you be home?"
"Well," John hesitates, and I imagine his cheeky smile. "How about in about thirty minutes?"
"Thirty minutes!" I exclaim. "Are you really coming home?!"
"Yes, love. I'll be there soon. What do you say we go out tonight?" John asks, and I squeal again. "Yazzy's already agreed to watch Jack. Let's go have some fun!"
"Okay, Johnny! Let's!" I heartily agree.
"But first, what do you say to a romantic walk in the park complete with a baby pram?" John says, and I love the playfulness in his voice.
"Anything, Johnny. As long as we're together."
"Then get you and Monsieur Jack ready, and I'll be there shortly," John says, and he clicks off.
I excitedly rush to Jack, who is happily playing in his playpen, scoop him up, and cover his face with kisses. He giggles and squirms, my exuberant happiness flowing onto him.
"Daddy's coming home," I tell him as he smiles at me. "Let's get ourselves ready," I add and hurry us upstairs.
I've just come downstairs and am putting Jack in the pram when the front door opens. I turn in high anticipation of reuniting with John, but I see nothing. I wander towards the door and am greeted by John's suitcases. Then I realize a driver has brought John's things up while John himself is down at street level chatting with some fans. The driver gives me an expectant look, so I hurry to my purse, grab a fiver, and hand it to him. He salutes me and heads down the stairs.
