Victor grew up knowing that his only parent was his father, Warren Keel. He was well built and tough because he had been working on the family farm all his life. He was firm with his principles and he was always there for Victor whenever he needed advice. Victor was very close to his father and they were always working together on the farm. Warren would always guide Victor in whatever matters most. He was also very concerned about giving Victor a better future.
One night, when Victor was only 16 years of age, Warren decided to have a little chat with his only son. They had just finished dinner and they were cleaning up the dining table. Victor always helped his father with the dishes and as he was almost done, Warren asked that he stayed at the dining table because he wanted to talk to him.
Victor pulled up a chair and sat across from his father at the dining table.
Warren: Son, I wanted to ask you something......since, ya know......you're gonna be done with school and all......You have any idea what you wanna do next?
Victor: Erm.......college?
Warren: Yeah, about that.......listen, have you figured out what you wanna do in college?
Victor looked down at the table while tapping his hand on his lap. He was fidgeting. He knew what he wanted to do but he wasn't entirely sure if his father was prepared to know his plans.
Warren: Look, I just want to know what you wanna do so that we can plan properly. You understand?
Victor: College is expensive, dad.
Warren: I know. That's why we gotta plan. It's a whole lot easier if you already know what you wanna do........
Victor: I wanna be an actor, dad.......
Warren: What's that?
Victor: I want to go into acting. I want to get into an acting school and pursue a career in acting.
Warren looked at Victor and nodded.
Warren: Alright. That's where we'll be headin' then......
Victor's face lit up with enthusiasm. He didn't think his father would have approved or agreed with his decision.
Victor: So.....you are ok with me wanting to be an actor?
Warren: If that's what you wanna do. I need you to sketch out a rough estimate of how much we're gonna need for your acting school. You got about a year or so to start saving up so you better work hard. You understand?
Victor: Yes, dad. (smiles)
Warren smiled at Victor. He knew that being supportive was all he can afford to give his son. At some point, he anticipated a much greater challenge which was to actually get Victor a place in a good acting school.
