He managed to speed up ahead of me by a thread in order to catch Naruto. He did so successfully, holding him back before giving him a small talk. I remained at the back, trying to find a moment to begin the incantation without Kakashi becoming suspicious. However, before I could start even that, Kakashi and Naruto eased up to go at my pace, and I mentally cursed. This would all be over if they just kept away from me.
"Naruto," Kakashi said, a composed tone in his voice. "You've never fought against someone like Deidara. You're a close-range fighter, and he excels at long-range fighting. That makes him your worst enemy. There're only two ways to beat foes like that. One is forcing him into close combat. The other is beating him at his own game with long-range ninjutsu."
Naruto's patience was wearing thin. "Spell it out, will you?!" he demanded. "Which are you, Kakashi-sensei?"
"Ah, me?" Kakashi replied, a hint of a smile in his voice. "I have superior intellect. I'm a Jonin and I can sustain a long-range battle."
"Then we meet the conditions!" Naruto shot back, clear annoyance in his voice.
"That's why I told you to calm down earlier. It's not that easy to just charge in. When we are on Deidara's tail, he won't allow us to create an opening. After all, he attacked Sunagakure solo and subdued Gaara. He is a member of the Akatsuki, an organization feared by all," Kakashi briefed, flipping open his headband, revealing his Sharingan. "So what shall we do now?"
"We create an opening ourselves," I stated the obvious.
"Exactly, and I have a plan," Kakashi said confidently.
At his words, Naruto began to calm down a bit. His eyes turned back into their normal sea blue, and the whisker marks on his cheeks relaxed. Kakashi was drawing up his chakra; I wondered what he was concocting. A moment later, he again opened his eyes to show another Sharingan. It was the Mangekyo, the same as Itachi's.
"Is that the new Jutsu you were talking about?" Naruto asked with curiosity.
"Yes, this is my Mangekyo Sharingan," Kakashi replied.
"Kakashi-sensei, it's alright if you don't. I'll finish him off," Naruto said resolutely.
A smirk crossed my lips. "Not if I do so first."
Kakashi chuckled, realizing, that he was also amused, "We'll see who gets the chance."
"Yeah?!" Naruto replied with one of his energetic feel-starts.
Kakashi's Mangekyo Sharingan had widened at Deidara, and in that instant, Deidara's arm was sucked into a vortex and was gone. I was in awe at that moment, of the power Kakashi possessed with his Mangekyo.
