Just before we're about to leave, another heated argument arises between Naruto and Sai, which just leaves Naruto depressed more than the usual. His feelings were plainly on edge, and one can see that the slightest thing would upset him.
Yamato had given in and accepted to be taking position on the other side of the bridge as the expected coming side for the Akatsuki spy was. He had raised his concerns on my safety and about me handling the situation in case the enemies knew of my presence but I assured him that everything would be okay.
My mind whirled with thoughts as I stood hidden on the far side of the bridge. The only person Orochimaru had really close to him was Kabuto. Really close. But Kabuto betraying Orochimaru? Something didn't add up. This was going to be interesting.
From where I was standing, I could tell that the other was Yamato, disguised as Sasori. He was talking with the Akatsuki spy, whose back was turned towards me, but the manner he carried himself based something that registered in my mind. Their voices were whisked away from me by the wind, so I couldn't catch a thing from the conversation either. It also meant that quite literally, my existence was a secret to them.
Suddenly the wind shifted, and under the hood I saw a glimpse of silver. My heart went to my throat. It was Kabuto. I could confirm that my suspicions were right, but what is he doing here? What could have driven him into the act of treachery against his own master Orochimaru?
A moment further with Yamato still in his Sasori disguise, he was all set to launch an attack on the spy. But then it was something completely unexpected that I saw, and that was Lord Orochimaru standing a few paces behind the spy, with snakes coiling menacingly around him. The cloak flew off the spy and there was Kabuto beneath it. I wasn't even surprised; my suspicion had been confirmed.
Kabuto whirled around and struck out at Yamato. I held my place, watching for the signal. In his struggle, Yamato's disguise was ripped away, and when he sprang back, he flipped his hand, giving the signal we were looking for. Without a word, Naruto, Sai, and Sakura launched forward, moving in front of Yamato with practiced ease while I darted behind Orochimaru and Kabuto.
"Heh, you again," Kabuto hummed, amazingly for amusement as he addressed Naruto.
"Well, now, isn't this a happy little reunion," Orochimaru hissed tauntingly. "And look, you even brought the Jinchuuriki brat along. Great. I've been waiting for such an opportunity to know who's stronger now—Naruto. or Sasuke."
Naruto's slitted eyes revealed the familiar shape as whisker marks darkened and became more prominent. Anger and determination could be seen glinting in that look.
