"I see, so you're the new team member, Sai, is it?" Kakashi said, looking up from his ever-present Icha Icha novel. "Nice to meet you."
"Yes, sir," Sai replied respectfully, bowing slightly.
Kakashi's visible eye crinkled in what I assumed was a smile. "Naruto," he prompted, turning his attention to his former student.
He nodded then, his normal excitement replaced with a more sober attitude. "I know, Kakashi-Sensei. On our last mission, we." he trailed off, looking for the right words.
"Yamato told me everything," Kakashi said, laying his book down and focusing on Naruto fully. "All about Sasuke too."
Naruto's face contorted in obvious distress. "We're running out of time. At this rate, he'll soon be—" His voice tightened at the thought of his friend and my brother slipping further from them.
"I wonder how long it will take for Naruto to think of you like that, strained," Hanami chuckled inside my head, her tone mocking, as if she knew something I didn't. I frowned inwardly, unsure what she meant. Ignoring her comments, I refocused on the conversation at hand.
"Where I'm at now, I'm not strong enough to bring back Sasuke. He's become too strong," Naruto continued, looking down.
Kakashi, still reading his novel, replied, "Well, in that case, you just need to get even stronger than that."
"Sasuke's rate of maturation isn't ordinary," I interjected immediately in an effort to diffuse the tension building in the room.
"That's right," Sakura agreed. "According to Lady Tsunade, it's quite possible they're enhancing his training with drugs and forbidden jutsu, courtesy of Kabuto. No books can help us fathom the mindset of those who experiment with live humans."
As soon as he said Kabuto and human experiments, my curse mark had flared up all at once. I reached up, but my hand faltered, trying to balance between grabbing my shoulder carefully and concealing the action, along with the resulting pain.
Kakashi's tone turned serious. "That's why the only thing we can do is super accelerate our growth. I have been brainstorming, and so far, I have come up with something. But this method is more suited for Naruto, or rather, only Naruto. If it works, Naruto, you may even surpass me."
"Surpass you, Kakashi-sensei?" Naruto slowly replied with disbelief.
"That's right," Kakashi replied back, firm in tone. "We'll be training alone, just the two of us. This training will be unlike any you've ever known. We're going to develop an ultimate Ninjutsu, one that belongs to you and is even stronger than the Rasengan. But in order to do that, you'll have to train harder than you ever have. You can't get stronger in a few days. And we can't do what we did on the Rasengan, where we broke it down and worked on it in easier stages until we got it right. It's going to take tons of time and effort."
