My friends are fake?

Four went around back to meet Luigi in the garden. "Oh Smg4! You must be here for-" He quickly shushed the brother. "Is Mario around?" Luigi shook his head. "Good. I don't want him to know anything about this. "Alright. I've got it here in the kitchen." Unknowingly to the both of them, a tin can was placed above Four from the bedroom window and Mario was trying to get intel on the conversation.

Hearing what his best friend just said, it hurt Mario's heart a little to hear that. "But...Smg4 is Mario's friend. Why would he not tell Mario?" He then heard footsteps that were echoing from the inside the can and listened closely. "There you go!" Luigi said as he handed Four a mysterious box. "Thanks. Remember, not a word to Mario."

Luigi pinky swore he wouldn't tell which only deepened the Italian's heartache. Just when Four was about to leave... "Hey! What's with this can?" Luigi shrugged and Mario freaked out, pulling the can. A yelp rang out from the window and that was Mario's cue to make his exit. Luigi watched in shock as Four rubbed his head in pain from a disconnected string, hanging from the strange can that knocked him on the head.

Four continued his weird behavior of sneaking around the kingdom, making sure nobody was following him. He was actually doing a terrible job because Mario was spying from behind, trying to figure out why Four really didn't show up to his party. A suspicious feeling rose in Four's chest as he turned around to which Mario instantly ducked behind a tree. "Mario thinks his cover's been blown."

Four made it all the way to Melony's apartment and quickly knocked on the door. Melony opened the door and waved her hand in a gesture that said "Come in quick." After throwing back the curtains, Four dropped the box and slide it across the floor to Melony with his foot. "He didn't see you at his house did he?"

"I don't think so."

"Thank goodness. We wouldn't want him to ruin everything." Four left, making it seem like just another normal day while Melony was now in charge of sneaking around with the box. Mario was wearing a corn costume and running after Melony in the streets. People turned to look at him, asking themselves if he or they were high on drugs.

He finally found her in an alley, talking to Tari. "Have you seen him?" She said she hadn't. "Not since this morning." Melony also recalled the same thing. "Why did he even want to throw an after birthday party today?" Tari had no idea, but said "I'm just glad I could find an excuse on why I couldn't be there." Mario's eyes began to water as Melony replied "Me too. This will surely be much better." Mario used his arm to brush away the tears as best he could.

"As long as we keep him from finding about it." Melony gave her the box and waved goodbye. once Mario had stooped rubbing his now very red eyes, he was startled to see Tari heading in his direction. He tried to make a break for it, but bumped into a wall and fell in front of Tari. Thinking quickly, Mario spread out his arms and said "OOOOOOOO Imma corn!"

It apparently spooked the gamer girl because she screamed and ran off. Now that he had heard the conversation between the girls, Mario didn't feel like chasing his friends anymore. That was until Three walked by with a packed bag. "Hey Mario." He immediately froze and his eyes widened. "Oh crap..."

With not a second to lose, he sprinted off before Mario could ask him why he wasn't doing...whatever he said earlier. "SMG3 WAIT!" Three rounded a corner and slowed down, thinking he lost that idiot easily. Mario came out of the shadows, yelling "WHERE IS SMG3 GOING!?"

He ran off once again with no answer and took a detour through the park. A kid was playing on the swings...or so he thought. "WHAT'S THE REAL REASON SMG3 DIDN'T COME TO MARIO'S SPAGHETTI'S PARTY!" Three rushed out of there and tried to think of someplace out of Mario's reach. The internet graveyard of course. He opened a portal and shut it immediately, hopefully without anyone noticing. Picking himself up, a hand offered to help. Three looked up to see Mario clenching his wrist. He spotted the bag and yelled to Three's face "WHAT'S IN THAT BAG!"

"Let go of my hand idiot!" Three yelled as slipped out of Mario grasp and opened a portal to Meggy's house. Unfortunately, Mario made it through that one and was still hot on his heels. Meggy was outside when a yell grabbed her attention. She swung around to see a panicked Three and Mario, dashing after him. "Meggy! We've got a problem here!" He ran past Meggy and into the house as she quickly followed and slammed the door in alarm.

Mario began furiously knocking at the door, yelling "MARIO KNOWS YOU'RE IN THERE!" Meggy took a gulp and nervously peaked open the door. "Hi Mario...heh..heh..." Mario tried to eye inside. "Mario would like a look inside." Meggy's face looked like she was having a panic attack as she blurted out

"Yes! I mean no! I mean- you can't come in here."

"Smg3 just went in there!"

"Oh well, he was just bringing some supplies for my home renovation. Fixing up the roof, top to bottom." Mario tried to sneak a glance, but Meggy just moved her body in accordance with his eyes so the view would be blocked. "Lots of construction going on in there!" Meggy cried while putting cupping her mouth with a and as to indicate that whoever was in there should play along. Voices started mimicking power tools and construction machines while Mario just kept trying to move Meggy out of the way. She couldn't take it anymore and slammed the door on Mario's head.

Recovering from the bonk, Meggy reassured him that was what really going on, but Mario wasn't buying it. He kept glaring at her intensely while she plastered a wide, fake smile. You could practically see the sweat dripping down her forehead. "Okey...dokey..." He started backing away until Meggy breathed a sigh of relief and Mario ran back up to her face.

Finally, he actually left and all of friends inside, poked their heads out and sighed.
