As the moon cast a looming shadow above the forest, the only sounds heard was the chanting call of an owl and the whooshing wind that would make you wish you were snuggled up in bed. That was the only sounds until Katie made a bunch of quacking noises. "What are you doing?" Zack asked.

"Calling for the duck!" Zack just loved to tease his sister, so he couldn't resist pulling out a smart remark. "That is not how you call a duck dummy." One of Katie's eyebrows raised up as he eyes rolled, displeased. "And you know how to call a duck."

"I know that's not the way."

"Then show me."

"I don't have to show you anything!" Katie saw her opportunity to bully her brother right back. "You're just scared!" Zack was very offended. "I AM NOT!" Katie's ears perked up as she replied "Oh wait. Now I know how to call a duck! ZACK! ZACK ZACK ZACK!"  It could have been sworn that some creepy eyes were watching them through the bushes. They were red....

However, the two siblings seemed more interested in each other as Zack walked ahead with annoyance. "That was so funny that I forgot to laugh." Katie said one final thing that was sure to get on Zack's nerves. "You also forgot how to call a duck." He stopped as his eyes went wide. "Why you..."

Cory tried to break it up. "Arguing isn't going to help find the duck." It sounded more like a quick squeaking sound as Cory didn't really use words. Katie nodded and said back "Yeah Zack. Quit fooling around."

"I was not!"

"Were too!"

"Were not!"

"Were too!"

"Were not!"

Meanwhile on the other side of the forest, Tari was trying her best to find the kids while trying not to run from terror. She started to doubt her actions. "Why did you agree to look after them?" She sighed and smacked her face while telling herself "Come on Tari! Be brave!" She accidentally stepped on a twig which sent her walking backwards straight into a tree.

Fear was getting the better of her until she saw a figure up in the distance. "Four? Is that you?" She stopped in front of the dark shape to find it was Four. "Oh thank goodness it is you. I need your help!" For some reason he seemed to lack movement. Not a flinch. Not a breath. Not a sound. The moon started to shine its way through the trees, revealing what just had happened when he went into the forest earlier.

"Karen's kids are out here somewhere and I'm worried that-" Now in the light, a stone statue of Four stood in place, holding a shocking expression that was etched into his face. "What...What's happened to you?" She lightly touched him with a shaking hand that caused the rock to  lose balance and smash into the ground. "Oh no! If you've been turned into stone then that must mean...THE KIDS!" She rushed off before calling out "I'll be back for you." with no response from the man.

"Were too!"

"Were not!"

"Were too!"

"Were not!"

Cory was the only one left looking for the duck while Katie and Zack were still arguing when a voice called out "KIDS!" They turned to find a worried sick babysitter as she knelt down and examined them for any injuries (or resemblance of stone). "Thank goodness I found you. We have to leave the forest at once!"

"What about the chicken?"

"There's no time for that! There's a cockatrice on the loose!"

The kids looked confused. Clearly they had not been educated on the different types of creatures in this world. "It's a frightening creature with the head of a chicken and a body of a snake!" She tried to drag them back with her, but they just continued walking and laughing. "That doesn't sound scary. That sounds silly." Katie giggled and said "If I ever saw one of those things face to face I would laugh my head off."

"NO! Never look one in the eye." Tari tried to lecture them on what a mythical beast like that could do, until Quackingtion was waddling through the bushes. "There he is!" They were running after the small pet of Tari's until a low roar was heard. The duck was poking its head out of the bushes when a chicken head popped out besides it."

Where did a chicken come from? Didn't matter as the kids tried to grab both. That was a fatal error as just when they were about to grab the chicken, it turned out to be just what Tari was afraid would happen. A long slithering body with wings, spread out, free from its supposed "cage" and opened its eyes.

The cockatrice had arrived.
