Higuchi Ichiyo is just your typical member within the ranks of the Port Mafia.
On the surface, she is as ruthless as her contemporaries. She does not hesitate to kill anyone and shows her utmost respect towards her organization.
In spite of that though. While her tough exterior fits her among the others. In reality, she is weaker compared to the more hardened members of her organization.
Even her own boss, Mori Ogai noted that she is someone who easily gets upset, second guesses herself, and sometimes hesitant of a few occasions.
Higuchi herself even thought at one time that she is unfit to be part of the Port Mafia.
Barely anyone has shown her respect in spite of her proven skills. Even the intellectuals of Minato Kanae and Anne Reeve Aldrich don't see too much in her as someone competent enough to get the job done.
She is also impulsive which has led to her making plenty of questionable decisions that would've cost her life.
While she is incompetent and weak in the eyes of her peers. She has earned the respect of the Black Lizard group.
Though while she has been a reliable and brave individual.
Her major weakness is her unhealthy loyalty towards one man.
Akutagawa Ryunosuke.
It's still unknown how she began to show such loyalty towards him. Whether it's out of respect or his ability to carry himself. She has remained loyal to him to this day in spite of the fact that her loyalty has been met by frustration from Akutagawa which led to her getting harshly treated and even borderline abuse on several occasions.
While Akutagawa's personality is without question as cold as ice. Higuchi still follows him to the end.
Especially now in this most dire of situation. Where in a cruel twist. Akutagawa was caught by a disease made by Hamasaki Ronin and despite the efforts several doctors including Mori himself.
They couldn't find any possible cure to the disease.

Higuchi was looking at Akutagawa as he laid there with probably the worse fevers that any person could have.
It's far worse though as while unnoticeable on the surface. On the inside, his entire body system is getting weaker. Every part from the Respiratory to the Immune system.
He's already starting to reach the point of no return.
Higuchi: Akutagawa...senpai...
She wasn't just concerned. She was also feeling that she could lose someone important to her very soon.
Her pessimism was already growing after doing everything that the doctors could to at least combat the symptoms. It wasn't enough.
Mori: Are you losing hope for him, Higuchi-kun?
Higuchi: Huh?!
She looked behind him to see her boss as Mori arrives at the makeshift hospital room within their HQ.
Higuchi: B-Boss...
Mori looked at Akutagawa before turning to Higuchi.
Mori: He's getting worse every day. It is a real shame to see him in such a condition.
