Risks

Annihilus dropped the shattered remains of the device, his eyes burning with a malevolent glow. He loomed over Reed, the weight of his presence almost palpable. "You are smart. Smarter than most... but not me. Where's the device?"

Reed took a cautious step back, his mind racing. "You destroyed it," he said, trying to keep his voice steady.

Annihilus's growl reverberated through the room, each step he took sending tremors through the ground. "Do not play coy with me. Your friends are here. You wouldn't have enough time to create a device to escape unless you had it already made. Risks sent you here, Richards. And it will kill your friends. YOU will kill your friends because of risks. So are you prepared to take another?" Reed's eyes fell in consideration of what he was saying. "Now... where is it?"

Before Reed could respond, a throwing disk hurtled through the air, inches from Annihilus's head. He caught it effortlessly, turning to see Dick, Superboy, and Artemis standing resolutely. "Now what was that supposed to—"

The device activated, detonating in his hand with a sharp explosion. Annihilus stumbled back, momentarily blinded by the smoke and sparks. Seizing the opportunity, Reed rushed to Conner and his friends. "Is Susan alright?" he asked, breathless.

"She's fine. Just where's the device?" Conner replied urgently.

"Don't worry. I have a plan," Reed assured them, glancing back at the still-smoking Annihilus.

Annihilus waved away the lingering smoke, his hiss filled with fury. "You dare—"

Artemis quickly notched an arrow in her miniature crossbow and fired at Annihilus. He swatted it away with a scoff, then slammed his Cosmic Control Rod on the ground. "Raise the shields! Make sure nobody can get in or out!" he commanded his minions. The insectoid guards hurried to comply, their movements quick and precise. Energy barriers began to rise, encasing the room and sealing off any escape routes.

Annihilus turned back to the heroes, his expression one of dark anticipation. "Give me your all. I want a proper fight," he declared, raising his fists.

The heroes braced themselves, forming a tight circle. The room hummed with the energy of the rising shields, the air thick with tension. The alien castle's walls shimmered with the newly formed energy barriers, creating an impenetrable fortress.

Outside,

Johnny, M'gann, Spider-Man, Susan, Ben, and Triton watched with a mix of frustration and determination as a shimmering energy shield formed around Annihilus' stronghold, encasing it in an impenetrable barrier. From their vantage point, they could see the top room of the castle through a large window, where Annihilus was locked in combat with Artemis, Dick, Conner, and Reed.

Johnny's eyes narrowed, his fiery temper matching his powers. Without waiting for a consensus, he ignited into flames and charged towards the shield.

"Johnny, stop!" Susan yelled, reaching out as if she could physically hold him back. But it was too late. Johnny hurled a massive fireball at the barrier. The flames splashed against the shield, creating a brilliant but ultimately useless display of pyrotechnics.

Hovering in mid-air, Johnny clenched his fists in frustration. "How are we supposed to break that shield?" he muttered to himself, watching his fire dissipate into nothing.

Spider-Man, perched on the edge of a nearby structure, scanned the scene with his keen eyes. "We need a plan, something with enough force to shatter that barrier."

Susan's eyes lit up with an idea. She glanced at Ben, the hulking form of The Thing standing ready for action. "I think I have an idea. Ben, if M'gann can use her telekinesis to slingshot you into the shield, it might be enough to break it. And if Johnny and Spider-Man help out, we could have enough combined force to shatter it. I might even be able to form a shield around ben's fists."
