The Failsafe

A shadow glided over the moon, heading straight towards Earth. The shadow was from a massive ship that was deep blue in colour with red spots, mainly in the shape of a turnip with the roots still attached.There was suddenly a flash of light from the East Coast of the US, where the two Green Lanterns, Captain Marvel, Nova (Richard Ryder) and the BatPlane breached the atmosphere to meet the ship.

"Deploying camera-sensor units." Batman said with a push of a button. Two small probes released from the Plane, watching as the plane, Nova and the Lanterns continued to approach the ship. 

"Attention." John Stewart says. "You have entered the boundaries of Earth space. Disengage all weapons and engines." 

The ship gave no response to which Nova moved more forward, "This is your final warning." Nova added with his fists and eyes glowing with a bright blue light. For a moment nothing happened, but only for a moment. It ended when there was a whirring from the red port in front of them as it lit up and shot a beam at them.

The two Lanterns got shields up in front of all of the cosmic heroes, but the beam persisted and shattered the spheres, turning them into skeletons before that too disappeared in a flash.The beam shut off and the BatPlane made its approach. "Code Red. Full offensive deploy." The bay door opened to reveal Superman, Shazam, Captain Atom, and Martian Manhunter all four wearing oxygen masks as they fly towards the ship.

Along with them was Iron Man, Vision, and Jessica Jones AKA Jewel. Jessica was the only one who needed an oxygen mask.

The beam from the ship fired yet again, all the heroes remained calm and avoided the beam, which split in three following the pairs of flying heroes.Superman and Martian Manhunter were caught in the beam that was following them, followed quickly by Captain Atom and Shazam. Iron Man, Vision and Jessica did their best to avoid the beams, but it was to no avail as the beam hit them as well. The beam was fired at the BatPlane, but Batman ejected before it exploded. From his smaller plane, he saw small ships being released on the planet below. One of the small planes, which dwarfed the size of Batman's pod, approached him, and fired an identical laser at him.

Mount Justice; October 16th, 16:01 ETD 

Red Tornado watched the screen in the center of the training space, turning to a second screen as another transmission comes through. It was Zatara. "Tornado, did you -? " he cut himself off, unable to get himself to say it despite his low and worried tone. 

"Yes, Zatara, We saw." Tornado said, and the Team stood resolutely behind him, already suited up. "Celestial defenses have failed. Initiate all terrestrial measures."

A camera panned from the destruction of a city as a woman's voice spoke over the screaming in the background before it landed on her in shaky movements. "This is Iris West- Allen, reporting live. The extra-terrestrials have brought their relentless global attack to Central City." 

The ships fired at the curve of the arch, knocking it to the street below, while another fires at a group of civilians running for their lives, destroying them in groups. One headed right for Iris, but just as it got close enough to fire, the Flash swooped in, grabbing the redhead and the beam exploded in front of the camera.

"Tronsnart siht namaremac ot ytefas." Zatara voice intoned, imbued with power. As two ships approached the camera, the world was covered by gold and as the gold faded away, Zatara stood on a roof of a building, and Flash slowed to a stop before setting Iris down. "You should both be safe here, at least for now." 

"Thank you, Flash and Zatara." Iris said hesitantly.Flash placed an arm on her shoulder before running off.

"Etativel won!" Zatara chanted and a see-through bronze-tinted platform formed under his feet and he rose into the air.
