I Dream I'm Spider-Man

Peter sat on the exam table, catching his breath after a recent checkup. Nurse Linda Carter finished jotting down her notes, then looked up at him with a reassuring smile. "Well, Peter, everything checks out," she said, "except for the bruises on your side."

Peter winced a bit, instinctively covering the faint bruise. "Oh, uh... I, uh... tripped down the stairs. Yeah, just didn't see them," he stammered, trying to sound casual.

Linda gave a small nod, but her look was more understanding than believing. "Maybe it's just stress," she suggested gently. "You know, sometimes when you're worried, you might start imagining something's wrong, even if it isn't."

Peter nodded, fidgeting. "I guess... maybe. I've been having these dreams lately. Bad ones."

Linda's brow furrowed with interest. "What kind of dreams?"

Peter hesitated, then looked at her, almost shyly. "Well... I'm Spider-Man in the dream, but I'm... losing my powers. It's like... I keep falling. I can't stick to anything. No matter how hard I try, I can't hold on."

Linda looked at him thoughtfully. "And in school, Peter? What are you focusing on these days? Any big applications or decisions coming up?"

Peter shifted uncomfortably, glancing down. "Yeah, actually. College applications, grades, all of that. But it's not just that... Might need to do some summer schooling. Missed out on a lot of school." He sighed. "It's my friends, too. They... don't really get me right now. There's... a lot I can't explain to them."

Linda nodded slowly, reading between the lines. "Maybe your dream is saying something about that, too. All those walls you're trying to climb—why do you think you're climbing them? What do they mean to you?"

Peter blinked, unsure. "I... I don't know."

"That sounds exhausting," Linda said, a warm understanding in her voice. "A lot of people feel like that at some point, especially when they're trying to figure out who they are. I went through my own phase like that when I was young."

Peter looked at her curiously. "Really? How'd you get through it?"

She smiled. "I went to my shrink," she replied lightly. "And she gave me a little advice: figure out what you really want, who's involved, why it matters, and then tackle it one step at a time. She told me to make sure I must have a clear focus on what I want and why." Linda watched him closely. "You always have a choice, Peter."

He looked down, thoughtful, "I have a choice..." then noticed the time. "I should get going."

Peter stood, heading to the door, then paused, glancing back at her, "Could you maybe, uhh-"

But she preempted him with a smile. "You're not the first superhero I've had in here," she said with a wink.

Peter chuckled, grinning as he left, feeling a bit lighter than before.

As the room fell into silence, Doctor Fate's words lingered, and the tension was palpable. Diana pursed her lips, breaking the stillness. "If Zatara's trust in Nabu is only 'measured,' then perhaps we should reevaluate the extent of your involvement," she said, her tone cautious but firm.

Clark nodded, catching on. "And there are other young heroes out there—potential allies who could bring fresh perspectives without the... complications of Doctor Fate's influence."

The hologram shifted once again, now displaying Johnny Storm, the Human Torch. His iconic fiery form lit up the screen as a youthful grin spread across his face.

"Johnny Storm has been in the hero game since he was a teenager, facing down threats that would give even seasoned heroes a run for their money," Batman said. "He's reckless, sure—but he's fought cosmic enemies and more as part of the Fantastic Four."
