"Look out!" Zatanna shouted, and both she, Cat and Artemis leapt, tumbling down the remaining stairs. They rolled down the hall and through a hole in the wall. When the smoke cleared, Secret was standing at the end of the hallway before dashing away.
Harm's eyes widened in surprise, but he quickly snarled and gave chase, dropping into the kitchen. Secret ran past Artemis, and she loosed an arrow at Harm. He caught it effortlessly, then pursued Secret down the hall, slamming the door behind him.
That's when the hissing sound from the open stove caught his attention. The tip of Artemis' arrow, still in his hand, ignited with flame.
"Oh, that little—" he growled, but before he could finish, an explosion tore through the entire first floor, shattering windows and sending debris flying.
In the backyard, Artemis, Cat and Zatanna emerged from a storm cellar, coughing and looking around. The yard was mostly barren, but one thing caught Zatanna's eye—a shallow grave marked with a wooden board as a tombstone, and three white roses.
Zatanna walked past Artemis, kneeling before the grave, placing a hand on it. After a moment, Cat joined her, reading the inscription aloud. "Greta Hayes. Beloved Sister."
Suddenly, a blue-white face popped out of the grave, startling both of them. Zatanna fell backward onto the ground, while Artemis staggered but managed to stay on her feet. Black Cat didn't flinch. The glow around the figure faded, revealing Secret, now standing with light green eyes.
Both Artemis and Zatanna instinctively scooted back.
Zatanna, her voice trembling, said, "This is your grave. This is your secret." She looked back up at the ghostly figure. "This is you."
Artemis, wide-eyed, mumbled, "A ghost. An actual ghost."
"You fight beside an alien and live in a wold where a raging green monster exists and this is what surprises you?" Black cat told her, making Artemis simply growl at her.
Zatanna slowly rose to her feet, still unsure of what to say. "H-how did you die?" she asked hesitantly.
In response, Greta summoned a familiar weapon into her hands—a dagger, its ghostly form floating above a blue mist.
"Harm's dagger," Artemis recognized instantly.
Cat couldn't keep her eyes off the dagger, it's shine glistening in her eyes...
Before they could process it further, the back door of the house crackled with lightning and then blew off its hinges. Standing in the doorway, nearly unharmed, was Harm.
"They defile Harm's holy place," he snarled.
Artemis, her voice cracking with fury, pointed to the grave. "We defiled it? You did this! To your own sister!"
Harm tilted his head slightly, a small smile playing on his lips.
"You're proud of it?" Artemis gasped, horrified. Her expression hardened. "And you had the gall to write 'beloved' on her grave?"
"Not gall, truth," Harm replied with an eerie calmness. "She was the only thing Harm ever loved. That's why she had to go. Harm's heart had to be pure. Greta had to be cut out. Excised like an infection."
At those words, Greta floated up from her grave, staring at the ground. Harm gasped, momentarily losing his composure before quickly regaining control.
"Ah, it casts another illusion spell," he said, his voice shaking.
Zatanna turned back from Greta to Harm. "Except I didn't speak. Harm knows it can't cast a spell without speaking."
Harm gasped again, watching as Greta stepped closer to him.
