Peter's eyes fluttered open, greeted by a bright light above him.
He swore it felt like he had just taken the best nap in the world. He yawned and rolled over, trying to get comfortable again.
As he shifted, he noticed Artemis sitting opposite his bed, her eyes filled with relief and concern. "Morning, Artemis," he mumbled, his voice still groggy. He closed his eyes, ready to drift back into a pleasant sleep.
But then, memories began to flood back—the battle, the blast, the pain.
His eyes snapped open, his heart pounding as he suddenly remembered everything that had happened before. He immediately sat up from his bed and noticed his surroundings.
Artemis and MJ were sitting beside each other on the left side of the bed. Kaldur, Conner, and Dick were sitting on his right. Or at least Dick and Kaldur were. Conner was leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. Wally was sleeping on a couch that was against the wall in front of him with M'gann sitting on one of the armrests.
Then he also realized the room he was in. It was a hospital. Everyone immediately sat up and looked at him. He breathed heavily, taking in his surroundings and himself. he looked down at himself and saw he looked... fine?
Better than fine.
It was like he was completely clean.
"Wh-wh-where am I??" Peter questioned.
Kaldur immediately looked at Dick, "Get Ms. Fost-"
"On it." he quickly said and rushed out of the room.
Artemis quickly rushed to his side and put her hand on his shoulder to calm him, "Peter, Peter. It's okay. You're in the New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Just calm down."
The heart rate monitor began beeping erratically. "H-H-How am I here?? All I remember wa-wa-was..." His mind flooded back with memories of his getting fired at by Annihilus and blacking out, "Annihilus! Did we-"
MJ got to Peter and put her hand over his, "Peter. Look at me." Peter just continued breathing crazily and looking around, not being able to focus.
"M-m-my senses are all over the place. Li-li-like it's height-"
"Peter!" She yelled. Peter then looked at her and she stared into his eyes. "Calm down. You're okay. We're all here." she said. Peter took another glance around at his friends as his breathing slowed down, "You're safe. Annihilus is gone."
He steadied his breathing and looked down at her hand over his and his anxiety quickly faded away. "...Thank you." he said.
She nodded, "Anytime." She then removed her hand, neither noticing Artemis staring at the 2 of them and the moment they just had.
A doctor then came in with long brown hair. She had a checkbook in hand with Dick behind her. She took out a pen and clocked it as she walked over to peter's side, "Good evening, Mr. Parker. I'm your doctor if you didn't already guess that. My name is Jane Foster. Now..." she set down the checkboard and took out a little flashlight, "Look into the light." He did as she asked and she examined his eyes before switching it off, "Pupils all good." She lifted up his head to look at his neck, "No burn marks on neck." She continued to do a couple more checkups then took her checkboard, "So no wounds. No internal wounds. Everything seems all good." She put her pen away with a smile, "Good luck out there, Spidey."
Peter immediately froze and his mouth dropped. She noticed his shock and quickly spoke up, "No, no, no. Don't worry. I'm Thor's wife. Nick called in a favor and here I am. He respects you ya know. Both of 'em."
