Misty
After our slight run-in with the gun-wielding demon, my dad and Val checked the area and found nothing else amiss. They also wouldn't let us wander off in the woods. I can't blame them since we got freaking poison ivy from our exploration. We also got to endure a lecture about the responsibility of sex from the adults in separate rooms. Val and my dad talked to the guys while Alana and Kadia spoke to the girls.
No teen wants to endure the sex talk from a parent. It's embarrassing since none of us were pure. Would we admit that little detail to the adults? Hell no! We're not insane. A bit crazy, but not insane.
I also discovered Alana had been married before meeting my dad. Her ex-husband was a complete douche to her and cheated on her. Dad had threatened to hunt her ex-husband down and beat the hell out of him. I don't blame my dad. I would castrate Tino if he pulled that shit on me. I'm not the same naive girl from our former life together.
Since the weather wasn't warm enough, the lake was out. So, we hung around the back deck and talked—more like arguing about cheating.
"I would never cheat on you," Tino said.
"What do you call flirting with other girls?" I asked.
"I haven't flirted with other girls!"
"You did before. Oh, I was just being nice. Pft." I rolled my eyes.
"I'll admit I was an idiot before. I'm not now."
"Uh-huh."
"Christ, can you two stop rehashing the past? Wasn't it bad enough that we dealt with the Nash and Maggie hour the first time? I don't want to relive it the second time," Ryan huffed.
"No shit," River said. "Once was enough. Newsflash: Nash doesn't want anyone but you."
"And Tino wasn't thinking clearly with that dumpster fire since it was before you two got together," Michael said.
"The guys are right. Everything is different now," Lena said.
The girls nodded in agreement.
"Transgressions run deep," Preston said.
We looked at Preston.
"You can't expect to erase the past when you inflict a deep emotional hurt on someone. Their hearts remember."
"How so?" Kass asked.
"Heartbreak is painful. People make light of it. But they shouldn't. You can't claim to love someone when you break their heart constantly. It doesn't work. The question remains: does Tino and Misty truly love each other?"
Everyone looked at us.
"With every piece of my soul," Tino said before looking at me. "Well?"
"I never stopped. No matter what you did. I always loved you and still do," I said.
"Then give the past a rest. What matters is now," Preston told us.
We nodded in agreement.
The back door opened, and Val checked on us. "Are you done arguing?"
"We hope so," Michael said.
Tino and I rolled our eyes.
"Good. We're heading to the lake."
"Isn't it a bit cold for the lake?" River asked.
"You're not swimming. But it would help if you burned off some steam. We're leaving in five minutes."
