Alina's hair flutters in the crisp autumn breeze as she stands on the path leading to Hogsmeade. It's the first weekend of the season, and the anticipation in the air is almost tangible. She wraps her jacket tighter around herself as another gust of wind sweeps through the castle grounds, tugging at her scarf.
The early morning sunlight bathes everything in a warm glow, with clouds drifting lazily across the blue sky.
"Lina!" Marlene's excited voice cuts through the quiet. Alina turns to see her friend hurrying toward her, her ripped jeans and a top with deliberate holes making her stand out as always.
"Hello, Marlene," Alina greets. Her gaze shifts to the two girls trailing behind. Lily wears a black skirt paired with a blue blouse, while Mary opts for a flowing purple dress.
"Hello, my favorite Slytherin," Marlene teases, a smirk tugging at her lips as the group begins to walk. Alina lets out a soft, amused breath at her antics.
The four of them fall into easy conversation, their voices mingling with the faint hum of the castle grounds. Alina and Lily discuss upcoming assignments, their tones pragmatic, while Marlene and Mary occasionally chime in with unrelated quips that lighten the mood.
When they reach the village, the streets are alive with festive cheer. Hogsmeade has outdone itself this year, the decorations leaning heavily into Halloween. Students wander around in small groups, their laughter and chatter filling the crisp air. The centerpiece of the festivities seems to be a sprawling corn maze on the edge of the village, where younger students dart inside, their faces alight with excitement.
Alina rarely participates in such activities, preferring to reserve her visits to Hogsmeade for the designated weekends. She finds herself following the girls to a seasonal pop-up costume shop nestled between the familiar storefronts.
The shop buzzes with energy, students flitting from aisle to aisle. Alina hesitates for a moment before stepping inside.
"Come on, Alina," Marlene urges as she holds the door open. "You'd look amazing in literally anything."
Alina rolls her eyes with a faint smirk. "We'll see."
Marlene's knowing grin only grows as Mary and Lily wander off toward a section marked with matching costumes. Meanwhile, Alina trails Marlene, her steps slow as she scans the aisles. Shelves are crammed with costumes, accessories, and decorations.
Alina is barely glancing at the items when Marlene reappears, bounding down the aisle with a costume clutched in her hands.
"Hear me out," Marlene begins, holding up a hand as if to preempt any protests. With a dramatic flourish, she flips the costume around. "You should go as a vampire."
