James Potter POV.

The dorm is quiet the next morning, the day after Alina revealed her secret—well, after Remus figured it out, and she admitted she knew he was a werewolf.

James's mind is still stuck on what she told him last night. A failure. Is that really how she sees herself?

No, it isn't her—it's what her family has made her believe.

It hurts to hear her say that, to hear that others have made her feel like she's less than she is. All he wants to do is shield her from that, from the world that has made her feel this way. But he knows she'd never let him do something like that.

A small smile tugs at his lips as he stares up at the ceiling. It's early, the boys are getting ready for the day, but he's already dressed. Each of them seems wrapped up in their thoughts. Except for Peter. He seems like he already knew about Alina. Maybe he did.

"You know, it makes sense that she's a Seer," James mutters, his eyes flicking from Remus, who's packing his books, back to the ceiling. "She's always been a bit cryptic... and all-knowing." He thinks back to all the times she said something mysterious, like predicting a boy falling, or knowing exactly when McGonagall was coming down the hall, or that time the boy actually fell in Hogsmeade—

"It does," Remus agrees softly, closing his bag. "But... if she's known about me for years, why hasn't she told anyone?"

Sirius is leaning against the bathroom counter, door open, fussing with his hair, trying to get it to look "effortless." At least, that's what he told James when he asked.

"She wouldn't do that," Peter says, breaking the silence as he grabs his parchment, tucking it into his bedside drawer. "I don't think she likes being a Seer, just like how you don't like being a werewolf."

James glances at Peter, jealousy stirring in his chest. Do Peter and Alina talk? Are they friends now?

Remus shoots Peter a brief look. "Yeah," he murmurs, his voice trailing off as if he's lost in thought.

Sirius finally emerges from the bathroom, striking a pose with his hands spread wide, as if he's a Muggle magician about to perform a trick. "How's my hair?" he asks no one in particular.

"Looks great, mate," James replies absently, not even glancing at him.

Remus and Peter mumble their agreements, also not bothering to look up.

Sirius scoffs dramatically. "None of you are even looking!"

James laughs as he sits up in bed. "It looks great, same as it did yesterday." He slips on his shoes, grabbing his bag from the foot of his bed.

His eyes linger on the pins Alina gave him, each one securely fastened to his bag, just like he promised her. Even the potion bottle pin, despite his distaste for Potions, is there. He smiles to himself. He's quite certain he'd do just about anything Alina Nightshade tells him to.
