Chapter 41

Baek Ji-Hu typed away at his computer, a rhythmic clacking that filled the otherwise silent study. It was a habit he had whenever deep in thought, a way to process and clear his mind. The study, located in the west wing of the second floor of the old villa, was his sanctuary. No servant except the butler was allowed in this part of the house.

A sharp knock on the door interrupted his concentration.

"Who?" Ji-Hu asked, not raising his head from his work.

"Young Master Man Sung-ho is here," Butler Baek said softly from behind the door.

The door swung open without waiting for Ji-Hu's invitation. 'As usual,' Ji-Hu thought, a slight smirk playing on his lips.

Man Sung-ho strolled in, his presence as bold and unapologetic as ever. "Working hard as always, I see," he remarked, glancing around the study before his eyes settled on Ji-Hu.

Ji-Hu finally looked up, his expression neutral. "What brings you here, Sung-ho?"

Sung-ho dropped into one of the plush chairs opposite Ji-Hu's desk, stretching out as if he owned the place. "Can't a friend drop by without a reason?"

Ji-Hu arched an eyebrow. "Not when that friend is you. You always have a reason."

Sung-ho chuckled, a sound full of mischief. "Alright, you got me. I came because I was lonely."

"Go away," Ji-Hu said with an eye roll. His friend seemed to have an uncanny ability to create chaos wherever he went. Man Sung-ho, undeterred, sat directly across from Ji-Hu, a broad smile plastered on his face.

"Let's go visit Dumpling and NaNa," Sung-ho suggested, his eyes lighting up with infatuation at the thought of seeing Na-ri. Ji-Hu wanted to stab his own eyes to avoid witnessing this lovesick display from his barely serious friend.

Their relationship—Na-ri and Sung-ho—had started as an arranged one by their parents. Initially, Sung-ho had been against it, having grown up with Na-ri. But after seeing the very grown and pretty Na-ri, he claimed it was love at first sight. First sight his foot, Ji-Hu thought. Sung-ho should admit it was love at the 101st sight.

"How about no," Ji-Hu responded, rubbing his temples as he felt a headache coming on at the thought of being a third wheel in their budding relationship.

"Come on, Dumpling would be there," Sung-ho insisted, even though he had noticed how Kim Jae-soo subtly avoided Ji-Hu.

Ji-Hu sighed, leaning back in his chair. "Why are you so insistent on this?"

Sung-ho's grin widened. "Because, my dear friend, you need to stop brooding and get out more. Plus, it would be fun. And you know you like fun, even if you won't admit it."

Ji-Hu gave him a skeptical look. "Fun, huh? Watching you make goo-goo eyes at An Na-ri doesn't exactly scream fun to me."

Sung-ho laughed. "You wound me, Ji-Hu. But seriously, it's not just about me and Na-ri. I think you need to see Jae-soo again. There's something there, whether you want to acknowledge it or not."

Ji-Hu's expression darkened slightly. "And what exactly do you think is there, Sung-ho?"

Sung-ho leaned forward, his tone uncharacteristically serious. "You two seems compatible, and it's not just because I want you to follow me even though that is still part of it. I think seeing him might help you figure out whatever it is that's eating at you making you stare at him always."
