Chapter 49.
The event's theme was "Eternal Elegance," emphasizing timeless beauty and sophistication. Sage chose the venue, a grand ballroom in a historic hotel owned by Baek Holdings, and transformed it into a luxurious paradise, reflecting the splendour of the new jewelry collection. The ballroom features velvet drapes, golden accents, crystal chandeliers, and elegant floral arrangements. A red carpet leads to the main event area, surrounded by gold-plated candelabras and shimmering curtains.
Kim Jae-soo arranged for the driver to pick up Shin Young and his son, Ji-Su, ensuring that all the important people in his life were present for this momentous occasion.
In the VIP waiting room adjacent to the grand hall, Kim Jae-soo and An Na-ri waited for Ae-cha's arrival. The room buzzed with quiet anticipation, the air thick with the significance of the event just two hours away.
Kim Jae-soo looked stunning in a bold and glamorous royal blue suit. The blazer featured a deep V-neckline with intricate embellishments on the shoulders, and a touch of avant-garde elegance. A flowing cape draped from his shoulders, adding a sense of regality. The elaborate top half of his attire perfectly complemented his tailored trousers, which were flared. He completed his look with black platform boots, which added both height and an air of power.
Beside him, An Na-ri was equally captivating in an ensemble that echoed Jae-soo's fashion-forward style. He wore a vibrant orange suit, the blazer featuring a deep V-neckline and intricate floral embellishments. A cape flowed from his shoulders to the floor, creating a sense of movement and grace. His high-waisted, flared trousers completed the sophisticated and bold silhouette. Kim Jae-soo glanced at his reflection in the ornate mirror, adjusting his blazer and taking a deep breath. An Na-ri, sensing his friend's tension, placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
"We've got this, Jae-soo. Everything will go perfectly," Na-ri said with a confident smile.
Just then, the door opened, and Ae-cha stepped in. She dressed in an elegant black gown with silver accents, commanding the room with her presence. Her cinnabar mark, a rose on the side of her neck, stood out against her smooth skin, adding to her regal appearance. She looked at her son and Na-ri, her eyes filled with pride.
"You both look incredible," Ae-cha said, her voice filled with warmth.
"so do you Mom," Kim Jae soo said as Na ri nodded.
Meanwhile, champagne and canapés await guests, and a large display case showcases stunning pieces from the new jewellery collection. Interactive touchscreens provide detailed information about the design, inspiration, and craftsmanship of each piece.
"Eomma, this is really grand," Kim Jae-soo whispered to his mother, marveling at the grandeur of the event.
Ae-cha pinched his ear softly, a playful reprimand. "It's just the entry. Wait until the reporters join the launch," she said, her eyes twinkling with pride and anticipation.
Kim Jae-soo and his mother stood close to the refreshment table, sharing a quiet moment amidst the bustling event. More business magnates, celebrities, and influential figures arrived, their presence meticulously documented by the reporters to ensure the world knew about Sage's grand launch.
An Na-ri, unable to resist the lure of the beautifully arranged food, rushed over to the refreshment table, eagerly sampling everything available. Kim Ae-cha excused herself, leaving the two friends to enjoy their plates of pastries.
"Oh ho, look who we have here," an all-too-familiar taunting voice called out from behind them. It was Su-jin, accompanied by her entourage of sycophants.
Kim Jae-soo didn't recall inviting her to the event. He exchanged a glance with Na-ri, both of them shrugging and then deliberately ignoring Su-jin and her lackeys, who loathed being ignored.
Su-jin's eyes flashed with irritation as she stepped closer, her entourage following suit. "I didn't expect to see you here, Jae-soo. Did you sneak in, or did someone make a mistake on the guest list?"
Na-ri rolled his eyes, taking a deliberate bite of a delicate pastry. "Jae-soo belongs here as much as anyone else. If you have a problem with that, maybe you should check your invitation."
Su-jin's expression darkened, and her entourage muttered amongst themselves, throwing disdainful looks at the two friends. "You think you're so clever, don't you? Just because you managed to get an invite doesn't mean you belong here."
Kim Jae-soo finally turned to face her, his voice calm but firm. "We belong here as much as anyone. If you can't accept that, it's your problem, not ours."
Su-jin's face twisted with annoyance. "Don't get too comfortable. You might find this world isn't as welcoming as you think."
Ignoring her threat, Na-ri nudged Jae-soo. "Come on, let's go see the latest designs. I hear they're breathtaking."
As they walked away, Su-jin's lackeys glared daggers at them, but neither Kim Jae-soo nor Na-ri paid them any mind. They moved through the crowd, admiring the intricate displays of jewelry, with the designs capturing the essence of elegance and sophistication that Sage was known for. Kim Jae soo felt relieved. He noticed since he confronted her that day it became easier to face her than in his past life.
While they mingled like other guests, Kim Jae-soo couldn't shake off the encounter with Su-jin entirely. He knew she wouldn't let things slide easily, but he also knew he had more important things to focus on, like supporting his mother and helping to make this event a success.
Kim Jae-soo and Na-ri soon noticed Ji-su and Shin Young entering the venue, both looking stunning in coordinated white and black suits that mirrored the elegance of the ones Jae-soo and Na-ri wore. The two friends quickly rushed to greet them, eager to show them around the grand event.
As they guided Ji-su and Shin Young through the venue, a familiar sight caught Kim Jae-soo's attention. Man Sung-ho and Baek Ji-Hu had just arrived with their families, looking as poised and influential as ever. The Baek and Man families' arrival caused a stir among the guests, with many turning to catch a glimpse of the powerful families.
"Ji-su, Shin Young, this way," Kim Jae-soo said, leading them through the crowd. He tried to avoid making eye contact with Ji-Hu, but the effort felt futile as his heart pounded in his chest. His mouth felt dry and he really couldn't explain what was wrong with him.
As they navigated the crowded venue, Kim Jae-soo couldn't help but notice Ji-Hu and Sung-ho approaching. His heart skipped a beat, but he forced himself to remain calm and composed.
"Well, well, if it isn't Dumpling and Na-na," Man Sung-ho greeted them with a playful grin, using their nicknames with a teasing lilt. " This is the first time I have seen you attend this sort of thing, Dumpling."
Na-ri rolled his eyes but couldn't help but smile trying not to smack his cute but dumb fiancé. "Sung-ho, Ji-Hu, good to see you both. There is always a first time"
Ji-Hu's gaze lingered on Kim Jae-soo for a moment longer than necessary, a hint of something unreadable in his eyes. Ji Hu remained silent but just stared at Kim Jae-soo for a moment, their eyes briefly locking before he gave a curt nod to acknowledge the presence of the others. His stoic demeanour contrasted sharply with the lively atmosphere around them.
