Chapter 45.

The next morning, the sun streamed through the windows of the small villa, casting a warm glow over the rooms. Ae-cha woke early, her spirits lifted by the bright day. She quickly dressed and made her way to the kitchen, where the housekeeper had already prepared a light breakfast.

"Good morning, Madam," the housekeeper greeted her cheerfully.

"Good morning," Ae-cha replied, taking a seat at the table. She enjoyed a quiet breakfast, savoring the calm before the busy day ahead.

After finishing her meal, she checked her phone and saw a message from Kim Jae-soo, confirming their plans for the day. Smiling, she gathered her things and headed out, looking forward to the time they would spend together.

Arriving at the apartment where Kim Jae-soo and An Na-ri lived, Ae-cha felt a wave of excitement. She knocked on the door and was greeted by her son, who looked equally happy to see her.

"Eomma!" Kim Jae-soo exclaimed, hugging her tightly.

"It's so good to see you, Jae-soo," Ae-cha said, hugging him back.

An Na-ri appeared behind Kim Jae-soo, smiling warmly. "It's nice to see you again, Mrs. Kim."

"It's nice to see you too, Na-ri. Are you ready for a day of shopping?" Ae-cha asked.

"Absolutely!" Na-ri replied enthusiastically.

As Kim Ae-cha, Kim Jae-soo, and An Na-ri stepped out of the elevator, they were immediately confronted by the sight of Choi Min-jun with his arm around his mistress's waist. The moment Min-jun saw Ae-cha, he dropped his arm, his eyes widening in shock. Kim Ae-cha, however, showed no visible reaction, walking past him as if he were a stranger. Her heart ached faintly, but years of separation and the dissolution of any fantasy of a happy marriage with him had dulled the pain.

Min-jun grabbed Ae-cha's arm, his touch momentarily arresting her stride. She turned to look at him, her gaze icy and unyielding. He released her arm, the force of her glare making him feel small and insignificant. He couldn't reconcile this confident, stunning woman with the memory of his wife who had once looked at him with love.

"Ae-cha," Min-jun stammered, his voice barely audible. He called her like he always did in the past when they were in love.

Ae-cha didn't reply. She simply turned and continued walking, her son and Na-ri flanking her protectively. Min-jun and his mistress were left standing in front of the elevator, the silence between them heavy and awkward.

The mistress, unfazed by the drama, shrugged. She had never cared about Min-jun's relationships or personal entanglements; she was only in it for the money. Sensing the tension, she decided it was best to leave, sassing off towards her apartment without a backward glance at the man who was now lost in his thoughts.

Kim Jae-soo couldn't shake the worry gnawing at him as he sat in the backseat of the car, glancing repeatedly at his mother. Her clenched fist and the tension in her shoulders hadn't escaped his notice. It wasn't until they had driven a fair distance away from Choi Min-jun that she finally exhaled, releasing a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. The tension seemed to melt away, and a determined glint sparked in her eyes. Today was going to be a good day, no matter what.

As the driver smoothly navigated the busy streets, Ae-cha turned to her son and Na-ri with a warm smile. "Today, we're going to have a wonderful time," she said, her voice filled with resolve. "No more thinking about the past. Let's focus on enjoying the present."

Kim Jae-soo and Na-ri exchanged glances, their worry slowly giving way to excitement.

The car pulled up to the grand entrance of one of the city's most luxurious malls. The glass doors sparkled in the afternoon sun, and the air was filled with the hum of bustling shoppers and the inviting aroma of freshly brewed coffee from nearby cafes.

Once inside, Ae-cha took charge, leading the way to a high-end boutique. The shop's sleek interior was filled with racks of beautifully crafted clothes, shoes, and accessories. A friendly store assistant greeted them, recognizing Ae-cha immediately and offering her the VIP treatment.

"We're here to update our wardrobes," Ae-cha announced with a bright smile, looking at Jae-soo and Na-ri. "Pick out anything you like. Today is all about having fun and feeling good."

Kim Jae-soo and Na-ri hesitated for a moment, but Ae-cha's encouraging nod pushed them forward. They began browsing through the racks, admiring the elegant designs and luxurious fabrics.

Min Jun drove through the city, his mind a tangled mess of emotions. He hadn't noticed the absence of his mistress as he left the apartment building; his thoughts were consumed by Ae-cha. She was as beautiful as ever, and seeing her brought back a flood of memories and emotions he had buried deep within.

He couldn't shake the feeling of emptiness that settled over him. It was the same emptiness he had felt the day she took their son and left him behind. Despite his faults and mistakes, Min Jun had never stopped searching for Ae-cha. He had turned the city upside down, desperate to find her and bring her back. His family and friends had told him to let her go, to focus on his life with Lee Ari, but he couldn't. The day he received the divorce papers in the company's mail, already signed by Ae-cha, was the day he felt his heart shatter.

He never understood why she left him. They had their problems, but he always thought they could work through them. He wanted them to discuss their issues, to find a way to stay together for their son's sake. But she had made up her mind and disappeared without a trace.

As he navigated the city streets, Min Jun's thoughts grew darker. He wanted to torture Ae-cha for leaving him, to make her pay for the pain she had caused. His pettiness and anger had driven many of his decisions, but deep down, he knew it was more than that. He didn't want her out of his hands because he still loved her, in his own twisted way.

He remembered the early days of their marriage, when things were simpler and their love was strong. He had been proud to have Ae-cha by his side, her beauty and grace drawing admiration wherever they went. But as time passed, things changed. He became more focused on his business, and their relationship began to deteriorate.

Min Jun's thoughts drifted back to the present. Seeing Ae-cha today had been a shock to his system. She had moved on, built a life for herself, and looked happier than he had seen her in years. The realization that she no longer needed him was a bitter pill to swallow.

As he pulled into the driveway of his home, he sat in the car for a moment, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly. He had a decision to make.
