Chapter 62.

Ji Hu and Jae Soo walked hand in hand towards their families, their smiles radiant and genuine. Ji Hu, in a moment of pure affection, lifted their linked hands to his lips and kissed them. He felt an overwhelming sense of fulfillment and happiness.

Kim Jae Soo was dressed in an exquisite white suit that highlighted his slender figure. The back of the suit was open, revealing his large, red, lotus-shaped cinnabar mark, giving him an ethereal charm. His veil, a vintage-inspired birdcage veil, added a sophisticated and elegant touch. Made from fine mesh netting, it draped gracefully over the top half of his face, ending around his cheekbones. The netting created a geometric, structured look, contrasting strikingly with his smooth skin. Adorned with a jeweled headpiece positioned to the side of his head, the veil featured a cluster of pearls and crystals arranged in an intricate design, adding a touch of glamour and sparkle. His mother had designed the veil accessories, making it even more special.

As they posed for family photos, the photographer captured their happiness. Min Jun, Ae Cha, In Soo, Madam Bang, and Ji Hu's father all smiled joyfully. The atmosphere was filled with love and contentment.

Suddenly, a shout broke through the serene garden. A haggard-looking Lee Ari rushed towards them, her eyes filled with hate and desperation. She had lost everything and couldn't bear to see her sister happy. Ignoring the beautiful surroundings, she darted past the bodyguards with surprising agility. As she got closer to Ae Cha, Kim Jae Soo noticed the sharp knife she had hidden.

Without hesitation, Jae Soo pushed his mother away, shielding her from the attack. Before anyone could react, the knife plunged into Jae Soo's chest, striking the exact spot where his heart was. Chaos erupted as the bodyguards finally subdued Ari, who laughed hysterically, her eyes wild with madness.

"I did it! Ha ha ha!" she screamed as she was dragged away.

Jae Soo collapsed into Ji Hu's arms, blood pouring from his wound. Ji Hu cried out, his heart breaking as he held Jae Soo close. Jae Soo's baby-fat cheeks were streaked with blood, his veil stained crimson from the blood he had coughed up. He tried to speak, but Ji Hu stopped him.

"Don't talk, baby. Stay awake," Ji Hu pleaded, his voice trembling. Jae Soo's eyes fluttered, trying to convey his exhaustion and the desire to sleep.

"Mine, don't sleep. Stay awake," Ji Hu begged, tears streaming down his face as he wiped away the tears rolling down Jae Soo's cheeks. Around them, the others were desperately trying to get an ambulance.

Jae Soo's strength faded, and his eyes slowly closed. Ji Hu's cries grew more frantic as he clutched Jae Soo to his chest. Even as Jae Soo's body grew cold, Ji Hu held on, unable to accept the reality of losing the love of his life.

No one could pry Jae Soo's lifeless body from Ji Hu's grasp. He clung to him, talking softly as if Jae Soo were still alive. Ji Hu spoke of their honeymoon plans, his voice a painful whisper of dreams now shattered. Their family watched in heart-wrenching silence, unable to bear the sight of Ji Hu's descent into madness.

As the minutes turned into an agonizing hour and a half, the ambulance finally arrived. The distance from the wedding venue to the hospital had made the wait unbearably long. Despite the paramedics' presence, Ji Hu remained locked in his trance, oblivious to the world around him. His grandmother, Madam Bang, and Ae Cha were at a loss, unable to mourn properly as they witnessed Ji Hu's mental breakdown.

"Ji Hu," his grandmother called out softly, her voice breaking. "Please, let them help him."

But Ji Hu didn't hear her. He cradled Jae Soo's cold body, his mind trapped in a reality where his beloved was still alive. Desperation etched on her face, Madam Bang finally ordered the paramedics to administer a tranquilizer to Ji Hu. It was the only way to take Jae Soo's body away and begin the mourning process.

The bright, sunny day had turned dark and gloomy as if the heavens were mourning the tragedy. As Ji Hu's eyes fluttered closed from the tranquillizer, the paramedics gently took Jae Soo's body from his arms. The family stood in silent grief, the weight of the loss pressing heavily on their hearts.

Madam Bang, her voice trembling, whispered a prayer for her grandson-in-law. "May he find peace, and may we find the strength to carry on."

Ji Hu sat up in bed, his body drenched in sweat, his heart pounding in his chest. His head throbbed as though it had been struck by a metal bat. He rubbed his face, feeling the wetness of tears that had traced their way down his cheeks—remnants of the harrowing memory from his first life, the memory of losing Jae Soo.

The clock on his bedside table showed it was just five minutes past 7 a.m. With a deep sigh, he swung his legs out of bed and stood, shaking off the lingering sadness. He poured himself a glass of water from the jug on the table, sipping slowly to calm his nerves.

He moved through his daily morning routine with practiced ease: a rigorous exercise session to channel his restless energy, a refreshing shower to cleanse both body and mind, and finally, dressing casually for the day ahead. Breakfast was a quiet affair, his mind already drifting to the tasks awaiting him in his study.

As he settled into his study, he began jotting down notes about his first life—painful memories that needed to be documented, understood, and ultimately, acted upon. He had missed Jae Soo dearly since their last encounter, but he knew he had to approach him slowly, carefully.

The phone rang, breaking his concentration. It was Man Sung Ho.

"Hey, I've sent you the information about the Plum," Man Sung Ho said, his tone brisk and business-like.

"Well, good morning to you too," Ji Hu replied with a hint of sarcasm. "Anyway, how is the info from the second branch coming along?" he asked, phrasing his question in a coded fashion to avoid suspicion.

"Slowly, as the snake is very alert," replied Man Sung Ho, matching Ji Hu's coded language. The reference to the 'snake' was clear—they were talking about his treacherous second uncle.

"Okay then, I'll go through the Plum documents," Ji Hu said, ending the call. He opened the email containing the documents and began to read.

The information was dense but crucial. As he sifted through the data, Ji Hu felt a renewed sense of determination. The memories of his first life, the chaos of the second, and the potential treachery in this life all converged in his mind. He would need to be meticulous, strategic, and above all, patient. This time, he would ensure that Jae Soo and everyone he cared about were protected.
