Chapter 64.
Choi Su Jin watched her family begin to fall apart after the arrival of that mistress and her son. Her family wasn't perfect, but at least they didn't fight daily; it had been like a war zone lately. Every night, her father locked himself in his study, breaking things in anger, probably because his mistress was ignoring him.
Her mother hardly came home until close to midnight, ignoring both Su Jin's existence and arguing with her father when she was around. The tension in the house was suffocating, and Su Jin didn't know where or how to vent her frustrations. Even Ji Hu and Man Sung Ho were avoiding her, their attention stolen by those stupid gers.
She wanted to remind her father of the promise he had made about using marriage to strengthen their ties with the Baek family. He had told her that they would use her marriage to connect more closely to the Baek family and enjoy cooperation with the richest family in the country.
But now, her plans seemed to be slipping away. She just wanted to marry Ji Hu because she believed only someone as beautiful and deserving as her should have the best.
Her father had often told the story of how, when he was younger, he witnessed an accident where Mr. Baek lost his wife. Mr. Baek and his son survived only with the help of Choi Min Jun. While in the hospital, Mr. Baek made a promise to fulfill whatever Choi Min Jun desired at any time since he was their savior.
Su Jin watched as her mother walked in, looking disheveled. Her hair, always neatly packed in a bun with no strands out of place, was a bit scattered. The side of her lip looked injured.
"Mom?" Su Jin stood and walked towards her, concern etched on her face.
But her mother pushed her aside roughly, rushing to her room without a word. This shocked Su Jin; it was the first time her mother had pushed her so forcefully. The harshness of the gesture left her standing there, stunned and increasingly frustrated.
Feeling the suffocating tension in the house becoming unbearable, Su Jin decided she needed to get out. She needed to leave this oppressive environment, even if only for a while, to clear her mind and regain her composure.
She grabbed her keys and purse, heading out the door with a determined stride. As she walked to her car, she thought about where to escape the chaos. Perhaps a visit to a club or a spa or meeting with friends could help her feel more grounded. Anything to return home feeling less suffocated and more in control.
She started the car and drove off, the need to distance herself from the toxic atmosphere at home driving her forward. Su Jin knew she needed to clear her head to figure out her next steps and reclaim what she believed was rightfully hers.
Su Jin walked into her favorite high-end club, a place where the elite of the city came to unwind. Sleek, modern sculptures and a cascading waterfall feature that added a touch of opulence flanked the entrance. As she stepped inside, the heavy beat of electronic music pulsed through the air, mingling with the hum of conversations and the occasional burst of laughter. The DJ, perched in an elevated booth, expertly mixed tracks that kept the energy high and the dance floor packed.
A mix of neon lights and soft, ambient glows enveloped the club's interior, giving rise to a luxurious yet vibrant atmosphere. The walls were adorned with abstract art, and plush velvet couches lined the perimeter, offering a place for patrons to relax and observe the scene. Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling, casting shimmering reflections that danced in time with the music.
The dance floor, situated in the center of the club, was a mosaic of LED tiles that lit up with every step, responding to the rhythm of the music. It was packed with people, their bodies moving in sync with the throbbing beats. The bar, a sleek, illuminated counter, stretched along one side of the club, manned by bartenders who skillfully crafted cocktails with flair and precision.
Su Jin's eyes scanned the room, landing on her lackeys seated at a VIP booth facing the dance floor. The booth was elevated slightly, offering a prime view of the action below. A velvet rope separated from the rest of the club it, emphasizing its exclusivity. Her friends were already sipping on expensive drinks, their laughter and chatter blending into the background noise.
The air carried the scent of high-end perfumes and colognes, along with the faint aroma of the gourmet appetizers being served. Waitstaff moved gracefully through the crowd, balancing trays of drinks and hors d'oeuvres with practiced ease.
Su Jin made her way to the booth, her skimpy dress drawing appreciative glances from some and envious looks from others. The fabric clung to her figure, accentuating her curves, while the stiletto heels she wore clicked against the marble floor, adding to her commanding presence.
As she reached the booth, her friends greeted her with a chorus of cheers and raised glasses. She slid into the seat, feeling the familiar sense of control and power that came from being in her element. The frustration of home faded away, replaced by the intoxicating mix of music, lights, and the adoration of those around her.
One of her lackeys, a girl named Hana, leaned over and handed her a drink. "You look amazing, Su Jin! Forget about everything and have some fun tonight."
Su Jin took the glass, her lips curving into a confident smile. "That's the plan," she said, raising her drink. "Let's make tonight unforgettable."
Su Jin settled into the booth, the familiar sense of power and control washing over her. She took a sip of her drink, its cool, refreshing taste a stark contrast to the bitterness she felt inside. She knew better than to air her family's dirty laundry, even in front of her lackeys. They were only loyal to her wealth and status, and she was acutely aware of their fickleness.
The memory of the Sage launch, where her so-called friends had distanced themselves from her family when security moved to throw them out, still stung. Loyalty, she knew, was a rare commodity in their world. She had no illusions about the people around her—they were tools, nothing more. And tonight, she intended to use them.
She leaned back, her expression calm and composed, as she observed her lackeys. Hana, always eager to please, was chatting animatedly about the latest fashion trends. Min-ji and Yuna engaged in a conversation about their recent shopping spree, their laughter blending with the music.
Su Jin waited for a lull in their chatter before speaking, her voice smooth and casual. "Did you hear about the latest scandal involving Baek Ji Hu and that ugly fat ger?" She watched as their heads turned towards her, eyes wide with curiosity.
Hana was the first to bite. "No, what happened?"
Su Jin took another sip of her drink, savoring the moment. "Well, I heard that the fat foolish ger and his friends got attacked by gangsters and they put Ji Hu and Sung Ho in danger."
Min-ji frowned, her brows knitting together. "What?"
Su Jin shrugged, feigning nonchalance. "I also heard that the gangsters were the unsatisfied men they slept with, and Ji Hu and Sung Ho got caught up in it as they were passing by, resulting in Ji Hu ending up in the emergency room."
Yuna leaned in, her voice low and conspiratorial. "Why didn't we hear about it?"
Su Jin hid her smile behind her glass. This was exactly what she had hoped for. "I don't know. Maybe the Baeks don't want news out there."
Hana nodded eagerly. "You're right. But those gers are too much, being slutty is not enough for them."
Su Jin's eyes gleamed with satisfaction. "Exactly. They act all innocent but behind the scenes..."
Min-ji and Yuna exchanged looks, their expressions determined. "We know just what to do," Min-ji said.
"Yes," Yuna added.
Su Jin smiled a cold, calculated expression. "Don't do anything stupid."
As the night wore on, Su Jin continued to sow seeds of discord, carefully planting ideas in the minds of her lackeys. She knew that their loyalty was fleeting, but for now, they were useful. And in the cutthroat world they inhabited, usefulness was all that mattered.
