Chapter 46.

DREAM..

Kim Jae-soo parted his son's back as he sang a lullaby softly to the five-year-old Mi-reu.

"Roses are red,

Violets are blue,

Papa and Dammy loves you."

The soft melody had its desired effect, and Mi-reu's eyes fluttered closed, his little hand clutching a plushie. Kim Jae-soo smiled softly, his heart full of love for his son. He heard the voices of the butler and the maid welcoming Ji-Hu home. Looking down at his already sleeping son, he carefully tucked the blanket around Mi-reu and placed a gentle kiss on his forehead.

As he quietly left the bedroom, he felt a sense of peace. Over the past four years, significant changes had occurred at home. The old butler was replaced by a new, respectful man in his late forties, and the household staff was refreshed with new maids who respected Kim Jae-soo as the second in command to Ji-Hu and the one in charge when Ji-Hu wasn't around.

Kim Jae-soo walked downstairs to greet Ji-Hu. The moment he saw his husband, a mixture of emotions welled up inside him. Ji-Hu looked tired but still exuded the same commanding presence that had always drawn Jae-soo to him.

"Welcome home," Jae-soo said softly, his voice carrying a warmth that he reserved only for Ji-Hu.

Ji-Hu's eyes softened as he looked at Jae-soo. "Thank you, Jae-soo. How was your day?"

"It was good. Mi-reu fell asleep just now," Jae-soo replied, a hint of a smile playing on his lips.

Their communication had improved remarkably, and it was evident in their interactions. They hugged more often, found comfort in each other's presence, and even cuddled during their quiet moments together. The household, once a place of silent tension, now echoed with soft laughter and shared stories.

Kim Jae-soo noticed a significant change in their dynamic. The absence of Choi Su-jin was like a breath of fresh air. She hadn't been hanging around or causing problems, which made life much smoother. It seemed like she had finally accepted that her attempts to interfere in their lives were futile.

That evening, after putting Mi-reu to bed, Kim Jae-soo and Baek Ji-Hu sat together on the living room couch, the fireplace flickering and casting a warm glow around them. Ji-Hu pulled Jae-soo closer, his arm draped protectively over his shoulders. They were in their world alone, the outside noise muted by the harmony they found in each other's presence.

Jae-soo rubbed his head against Ji-Hu's chest, seeking comfort and warmth. Ji-Hu responded by gently massaging his scalp, his fingers moving with a soothing rhythm that relaxed Jae-soo further.

"How was your day?" Ji-Hu asked softly, his voice a low murmur against the backdrop of the crackling fire.

"Busy, but good," Jae-soo replied, closing his eyes as he enjoyed Ji-Hu's touch. "And yours?"

"Productive. But this moment right here makes everything worthwhile," Ji-Hu said, leaning down to kiss the top of Jae-soo's head.

Jae-soo smiled, his heart swelling with contentment. "I love these quiet moments with you."

"Me too," Ji-Hu agreed. "We should make more time for them."

Jae-soo nodded, feeling a sense of peace wash over him. "We will. We're building something beautiful together."
