Chapter 72.

Ji Hu ended the call with Mrs Kim, feeling the weight of worry pressing down on him. But instead of letting it drown him, he decided to take action—albeit with a little more urgency than necessary. He fumbled with his phone, dialing Man Sung Ho's number as quickly as possible, nearly dropping the device in haste.

When Sung Ho answered, his usual cheerful tone had a hint of mischief. "Ji Hu! What's the emergency? Did you finally decide to confess your undying love for me?"

Ji Hu rolled his eyes, unable to help a small smile despite his concern. "If you're my only option, I'm in more trouble than I thought."

Sung Ho laughed, the sound infectious. "Hey, you could do worse. So, what's up?"

Ji Hu tried to keep his voice steady, but there was an underlying urgency. "I need a favor. I just talked to Mrs. Kim—Jae Soo's mom—and she said he's not feeling well. I want to check on him tomorrow morning, but I don't have his address. I thought it'd be nice if we all went—me, you, and Na Ri."

There was a brief pause before Sung Ho responded, his tone now a mix of curiosity and concern. "You're worried, aren't you?"

Ji Hu hesitated. "Let's just say my 'gut feeling' is acting up. You know how reliable that is."

Sung Ho snorted. "Your gut feeling? The same one that convinced you when we were younger that a ghost was haunting the halls in third grade because the door creaked?"

"That door was suspiciously creaky," Ji Hu defended, though even he had to laugh at the memory. "But seriously, can you get Na Ri on board? I'll feel better if we're all there."

"Alright, alright. I'll call Na Ri, but if he asks why, I'm telling him it's because you're hopelessly obsessed with Jae Soo," Sung Ho teased.

"Do that, and I'll make sure you end up with a big company loss," Ji Hu shot back, his mood lightening slightly.

"Fine, fine. Hold on," Sung Ho said, switching calls.

Ji Hu smiled to himself, knowing that no matter what, Na Ri would always be up for it—especially if food was involved.

Sung Ho returned, his voice tinged with amusement. "Na Ri's in, but he wants to know if there's going to be food involved."

"Tell him there will be food and he won't have to pay," Ji Hu replied, shaking his head.

"Done and done. I'll text you the address in a sec," Sung Ho said, laughing.

Sung Ho sent the address, and Ji Hu saved it with a sigh of relief. But there was still that nagging feeling, the one he couldn't shake. Still, he had to remind himself—this time was different. This time, He was going to be there earlier for him.

"See you tomorrow, Sung Ho. And don't do anything stupid tonight."

"Who, me? I'm a model of restraint and good judgment," Sung Ho said with mock seriousness.

"Right. And I'm the Founding Emperor. Goodnight, Sung Ho."

"Goodnight, Your Majesty," Sung Ho quipped before hanging up.

Ji Hu put his phone down, feeling a little better.

Jae Soo woke up in the soft embrace of his duvet, the material warm and familiar against his skin. His head throbbed slightly, and a dull ache spread behind his eyes as he blinked against the morning light filtering in through the curtains. He felt disoriented, the events of the previous night a vague blur. The soft knock at the door pulled him from his haze.
