Chapter 43.

Su-Jin saw he didn't cower like he did before. Ignoring that fact, she spoke, her voice dripping with disdain.

"So, you think because Ji-Hu is found around you, it means he accepts your feelings?" Her words were laced with venom, triggering painful memories of when she mocked him after he married Baek Ji-Hu. His nails dug into his palms at the pressure, a small, sharp pain grounding him as he fought his emotions.

Seeing he wasn't responding, she poked his shoulder with her manicured nails, her touch sending an unwanted jolt through him. Kim Jae-soo clenched his jaw, trying to keep his anger in check.

"Haha, you are just a weakling. Ji-Hu doesn't need such a person," she laughed mockingly, twirling his hair around her finger in a gesture that felt both possessive and dismissive.

She was furious that someone she saw as a mere fly was trying to be close to Ji-Hu. Today, she came to warn him, and if he didn't listen, she would handle him herself.

"I am sure your mother is a mistress, stealing people's husbands," Su-Jin sneered, but that was the final straw for Kim Jae-soo.

His timid persona vanished, his usually round eyes sharpening with a predatory glint. It was clear that this woman hadn't figured out their true relationship yet. He gave her a sinister smile, which caused her to flinch as he leaned closer to her ear.

"Says the pot," he whispered, his words sending shivers down her spine. She moved to push him away, but he dodged her hands with a look of pure disgust.

'Obviously, this boy was timid,' Su-Jin wondered, bewildered by his sudden change.

"I tend to avoid interacting with ghosts and monsters," he continued, his voice low and dangerous. "Word of advice: stop trying to look like a vampire. It makes you look rather dead than undead." He smirked as she stared at him, speechless.

For the first time, she saw a side of this nameless fool she had never expected—a side that was strong, unyielding, and terrifying.

He straightened up, maintaining his fierce gaze. Just as he was about to leave, he caught sight of the dog man, Choi Min-Jun, walking out of the elevator with his side piece. She looked beautiful and sassy, her hips swaying seductively while his hand rested possessively on her lower back.

"Aye, isn't that President Choi?" The smile on Jae-soo's face turned mocking as he pointed in their direction behind Su-Jin.

Su-Jin turned and immediately caught sight of her father, who hadn't noticed them. Using her shock to his advantage, Kim Jae-soo slipped away into the apartment building, rushing to Na-ri's apartment. Inside, Kim Jae-soo's heart was pounding, but he felt a strange sense of liberation. The itchy feeling he had felt on his wrist vanished, and his tightly clenched fists loosened as he walked to the apartment. This was a new beginning, a chance to stand up for himself and those he cared about.

He reached Na-ri's apartment and let himself in, closing the door behind him with a sense of finality. The familiar surroundings brought him a measure of comfort. He took a deep breath, allowing the tension to leave his body.

Kim Jae-soo found that Na-ri was back and watching the entertainment news. At the sound of the door opening, Na-ri stretched his neck to look at Kim Jae-soo, who was seated on the floor, looking relieved.

"Aye, what happened that you look like you met Lord Yama but survived?" Na-ri asked, noticing Kim Jae-soo's exhausted state. Kim Jae-soo got to his feet and handed over his meal, which he had forgotten was in his hands, to Na-ri. At the sight of food, Na-ri brightened up immediately.

"Hold on, let me microwave it," Na-ri said, but Kim Jae-soo shook his head tiredly.

"I'm full. You eat. I am going to bed," he said, dragging himself to his room and shutting the door behind him. He fell onto the bed and drifted off into a deep sleep almost instantly.

Na-ri, left speechless in the living room, stared at his friend's closed door in shock. "Who rejects food?" he thought, shaking his head in disbelief. He went ahead to eat the meal and continued watching the entertainment news, wondering what had happened to make Kim Jae-soo so tired and relieved at the same time.

In the stillness of his room, Kim Jae-soo's mind, even in sleep, raced with memories and emotions. His encounter with Su-Jin, the sight of his father, and the realization that he had stood up for himself left him with a bittersweet feeling. For the first time in a long while, he felt a sense of liberation. But with it came the burden of uncertainty about what lay ahead.

Meanwhile, Su-Jin rushed in front of her father without a care, raising her hand to slap his mistress. However, the mistress swiftly caught Su-Jin's hand in mid-air and returned the attempted slap with force, leaving a stinging imprint on Su-Jin's cheek. Choi Min-Jun looked on, his face devoid of emotion.

"How dare you, a mistress, slap me?" Su-Jin demanded, glaring at her father. "Pa?"

She expected him to say something, anything, to defend her, but he remained silent as his mistress clung to his arm, acting coquettish.

"Husband, see what this child is trying to do," the mistress purred, her voice dripping with sweetness. Min-Jun smiled, his ego swelling at her display. He pinched her cheek affectionately, while Su-Jin stood there, nearly in tears, blocking their path.

Min-Jun and his mistress began to walk away, ignoring Su-Jin entirely. This high-end apartment building was filled with people who preferred to mind their own business, and they walked past the scene without a second glance.

"Pa?" Su-Jin called again, stamping her foot in frustration. Min-Jun pulled his mistress closer and, with a dismissive shove, pushed Su-Jin out of the way without a care in the world. Before they completely disappeared from sight, Min-Jun stopped, not bothering to turn around, and spat out, "This event should be swallowed and left to rot in your stomach, or else."

With those cold words, they left, leaving Su-Jin standing there, her face flushed with anger and humiliation. She stomped her feet in frustration before turning on her heel and storming away, vowing revenge against her father's mistress and anyone else who dared to cross her. Today felt like everyone wanted to torture her.
