Kylie picked me up for school, we chatted in the car like everything was normal. Well, it kinda was, for Kylie of course, I just had to get used to the new situation.
We got to school and went straight to our lockers because we were almost late, we grabbed our books and I went to my Geography class. I did my homework, for the first time in a very long time and that made me proud. I listened during the lesson, it was a good one, afterwards, I went for Life Science.
After the lesson, Mrs Nelson called me to stay.
"Morning ma'am." I greeted.
"Elena Monroe, how are you?" She asked.
"I'm good thanks and yourself?" I responded with a smile.
"I am good. We have a problem Elena."
"What problem Mrs Nelson?"
"Your grades."
"My grades? Life Science is my best subject, I have an A average and it's the only subject where I never get below an A."
"Well, this paper says otherwise and it could ruin your perfect score." She said gently as she disappointedly gave me the paper that we wrote the previous week.
It had a huge red C+ mark on the top right.
"C+?" I exclaimed, eyes widened. Mrs. Nelson shrugged her shoulders.
"There's gotta be a mistake ma'am, there is no way I got a C+ in Life Science, it's highly impossible. Are you sure you marked correctly?"
"I was thorough and I went through the paper like three times, this is your mark Elena."
"But how?"
"You tell me. What's going on Elena? Why aren't you studying and reviewing the notes I give you? Do you even study?"
I was not a nerd or anything and I did not get straight A's but that was Life Science, even if I failed other subjects, or get low marks on other subjects, Life Science never went below A. C+ was more of a mark for Geography or Math, not Life Science. I enjoyed Life Science and Mrs Nelson was the greatest teacher you could ever have. I was rather disappointed in my mark and Mrs Nelson looked like she was disappointed too.
"I do study ma'am."
"You can boost your mark with the upcoming test that we will be writing before the semester ends, luckily for you, it takes up sixty person of your grade for the semester so it might help. Please don't mess up. Study Elena. Don't ever let your personal issues mess up your grades okay? Never make that mistake again."
"Okay ma'am, thanks a lot."
"It's a pleasure. It's your senior year, you cannot afford to slip."
"Noted."
"You are free to go." She told me and I left the class and got into Math. Henry was sitting where I normally sit.
"Are you trying to annoy me Peterson?"
"No, how am I doing that?"
"Get up." He laughed and left to go to his own. His scent lingered, leaving me intoxicated with it.
"I saw Mrs Nelson calling you, what was that about?"
"Uh, nothing important really." I said and faced down.
"I don't know why you like acting like I don't know you Navia, you can't really lie to me. Either tell me that you don't want to talk about it or tell me what it is, don't lie to me, you know I'll pester you right?" I looked at him from my peripheral vision for a few seconds then I burst into laughter, I have no idea why it made me laugh to hear him say that.
