Hyacinth's POV
"Sweetie, be good at school and don't do anything to make your teacher upset, okay?" Mama reminded me as she combed my hair. I stared at my reflection in the mirror, grinning widely.
It was my first day at Cordeneria Academy, and I was only in the first grade. This private school made me confident that I would make many friends.
Who wouldn't want to be friends with a billionaire and a Montgomery at that?
"Are you excited, baby?" Mama asked enthusiastically, and I nodded several times. After she finished fixing my hair and dressing me, she led me outside.
I saw Papa there, but he didn't pay any attention to me. As I walked towards the car parked outside the mansion, my mother kissed me on the cheek.
"Remember what I told you," she repeated her reminders, and I echoed her words.
"Mom, don't be nervous. I'm grown up now; I can handle myself." My confidence was boosted by knowing she was worried about me.
I managed to ease her worries, which made me feel lighter. When I arrived at school, I walked in alone with my head held high.
I thought everything would go as I expected. But I was wrong; when you're a billionaire in a school full of narrow-minded children, you're just setting yourself up for trouble.
"You're a billionaire, right? Why doesn't it show? You look too ugly to be a billionaire!" a child I didn't know insulted me.
I was alone in the cafeteria, and even on the first day, I already didn't want to go back. I thought I would make friends, but instead, I made enemies.
"Serio Clothing isn't even that big; you can't even get Jezreel Ybañez to be your ambassador!" another insulted.
Four children surrounded me, all hurling insults. I wanted to fight back, but I couldn't. I promised Mama I'd be good and stay out of trouble.
"You look so fat. Don't you have a gym at home?" I gripped my skirt tightly because my fists were trembling with the urge to punch someone.
Laughter erupted in the cafeteria, even among the older students, who laughed instead of intervening.
"Answer us. Are you mute?" I was shocked when one of the girls suddenly pulled my hair. I fell from my seat and landed on the floor.
The laughter grew louder. The humiliation was overwhelming, and I was about to retaliate when someone suddenly pushed the girl pulling my hair.
She let go of me, and I fell back onto the floor.
"Leave her alone!" I saw a girl with long hair and a tall stature standing beside me. I recognized her by her voice.
"How dare you call her fat? Have you looked in the mirror? You look like a blobfish!" said Cephues, someone I didn't expect to be here. The crowd laughed at her words, and the bullies left when she threatened to stab them with a pencil.
"Are you okay, Hyacinth?" My world seemed to stop when she turned to me. She helped me up, and it felt like a thousand volts of electricity hit me when she held my hand.
