THE TOWN WAS FILLED with nothing but ghosts. old relics scattered around the streets, cloths discarded on the ground, trash flying in the wind. it was a sight for sore eyes. the town seemingly completely abandoned, which only sparked lee to keep a higher guard as they walked.
boots thumping against the cracked concrete road. his gun was clutched tightly in his hands, back tense as he eyed the town. looking around for any sign of the dead or the living.
the group slowed to a stop, eyeing the old run down shop. it was built of white brick walls, windows covered in a thick layer of dust. lee attempted to peer inside of the food bank, grumbling when the dirt concealed whatever was hidden within the building. "this is it. the food bank fed the whole county, the cans at my church would've ended up here." gabriel explained, using his hand to motion to the dirty old door. the sign above the door dim, the lights had gone out long ago.
rick looked to the man before bank to the abandoned store. slowly the group entered the store, guns raised as they cleared the store. finding none of the dead, yet still hearing the dead's groans echoing through the store. they neared a sink hole in the floor, a groan of disgust leaving lee's lips as they did so. "oh that's disgusting." he mumbled, a hand covering his nose.
bob nodded in agreement from beside the teen. a scowl on his lips as the scent of the dead filled his nose. "if a sewer could throw up, this is what it would smell like." he added, earning a nod of agreement from lee. the walsh boy turned his head away, "waters been coming down from those holes for a while. slimed the place up real good." michonne told, the group silently agreed with the women. "we can use the shelf's to block them." sasha commented.
rick nodded, looking over his shoulder at the women. "yeah, that's right, sasha." he told, standing from where he knelt. lee pursed his lips, "guess we're going for a swim." he mumbled beneath his breath, bob snorted from beside him. "how refreshing." the man told, a faint smile on his lips.
lee cringed as he jumped into the water, chills running up his spine as the cold water wrapped around his waist. the group pulled the shelf's closer to them, the shelf's floated easily, allowing the group to mold them into a barrier of sorts. raising his knife they began to pick the walkers off through the gapes in the shelves. body's dropped into the dirty water, splashing the liquid into the air as their bodies floated within the water.
frantic splashing caught lee's attention, looking over his shoulder at gabriel who was struggling to climb up the steps, the old decaying wood fell. the steps sunk beneath the water, while gabriel pushed himself further away. backing himself against a wall, eyes squeezing shut in fear. lee nudged rick, pointing to gabriel who had his eyes tightly shut. rick let out a deep sigh. "we've got to get gabriel." the grimes man told, catching the attention of the others. "what happened?" bob questioned, looking into gabriel's direction. rick shook his head in response. "i don't know. alright we'll push the shelves onto the one's in front of us. we'll fight through the rest and i'll grab him." rick told, the walsh boy lightly groaned, shaking his head as he planted his hands on the shelf.
