HER EYES FLUTTERED open, squinting at the lights the burned deep within her eyes. her head was laid atop a plush pillow, her hair neatly combed out, the soft waves laying beneath her. a groan left her lips, her jaw clenching as she sat up.
her body ached, each muscle within her burned. pleading with her to lay down for a few more moments. lay down and relish in the soft mattress, relax into the soft pillow and the warm blanket. she wanted so deeply to do so, allow her body to fall limp, let sleep steal her once more.
she knew she couldn't. no matter how much she wanted to sleep until the end of time, she forced her body up. hissing in pain as she did so, she raised her hands to her face. tracing over the stitches and the small bandaids that lingered on her skin. her arms were ridden of any dirt and blood that had once lingered. instead of the loose cargo jeans and the long sleeve top she once wore, she was dressed in a hospital gown.
her heart began to race, teeth chewing on the inside of her cheek as she stood. her digits wrapped around the metal instrument that stood beside her bed, the tool holding an iv bag up high. natalia let out a pained groan as she began to move. the tool wheeling beside her, nearing the window the girls eyes widened. her mouth went dry at the sight.
she was back in atlanta. back within the burned and ruined city, she could faintly see where the bombs had landed. where the earth had sunk in due to the large bombs. the black charcoal that lingered on the walls of the tall buildings. a shaky sigh left her lips at the sight, looking down to her arm her hand shakily pulled the needle from her arm. dropping it onto the ground, the sound of the door knob twisting had the girl whirling around. eyes wide and heavy breaths leaving her chapped lips. the girl stayed frozen in place, eyeing the door as it swung open.
her teeth gnawed on the inside of her cheek, three people entered the room. a faint gasp left natalia's chapped lips, "beth." she rasped out, her voice horse and throat dry. the green girl wrapped her arms tightly around natalia, slightly making the girl loose balance. never less she wrapped her arms tightly around her friend, tugging the girl close to her. her fists clutching tightly around the girls light blue scrubs, attempting to ground herself. her heavy breaths that spilled from her lips loud in the room that seemed to fall deafeningly silent. the two mystery people that stood by the door simply watched the two's interaction.
slowly the two pulled apart, shock evident in natalia's eyes. her chapped lips slightly parted in shock, she hadn't expected to see any of her friends again. yet she was entirely grateful she had found beth. "i thought everyone was dead, are the others here?" natalia questioned softly, beth slowly shook her head at the girl. "it's just us." beth told sadly, slowly shrugging her shoulders. natalia refrained from letting it show that she was disappointed. reluctantly the grimes girl nodded her head, tilting her head slightly at the cut on her friends cheek. "did they do that to you? how long have you been here?" she questioned, raising a brow at the green girl who was quick to shake her head.
