THE WARM SUMMER AIR was refreshing, the blazing heat calming for the day. the midst of summer always was uncomfortable, the heat relentless and the sun having it out for those who still remained alive.

it was just another one of the downsides to the dead walking, it resided on the list with just about everything else that was ruined since the world crashed.

the wind gently blew, rustling the bushes as he walked down the rail road tracks, his boots crunching above the rocks as he walked. his hand rested atop the handle of his knife that resided on his belt, his other lightly swung, the pain had barley ceased but it was enough to not make him want to chop the limb off. his pack rested on his shoulders, his teeth sunk into his lips as he walked down the rail road.

he'd wrapped the berries he'd found in a small bag, stuffing them into his pack as he walked. when carol and tyrese left to go hunting, the only thing on their mind was finding a deer large enough to feed the five of them. while they hunted for the mammal, lee had left to find the berries he'd seen two days prior.

mica offered to go with him, which he declined. he knew she was the only one that understood what a walker was, her sister didn't and he didn't like leaving judith alone with the older blonde sister. he kicked at the rocks as he walked, a frown planted on his face as he did so.

he had begun to realize he hated being alone, walking the tacks was quiet. more quiet then he was used to, it left his mind to much room to speak, it made him think harder then he'd like to. he was unsure of how many times he'd read his letter the night prior, but it was enough times that he had memorized it enough. he had begun to hear it repeating quietly in the back of his mind, the same letter, each word down to a T he knew.

it made his chest tighten each time he thought back to it, because it truly was all he had left. he kept it folded neatly within the inside of his coat. the small pocket hidden in the inside of it shielded the page from harms way. the simple lined sheet of paper was now something he'd cherish for as long as he could. losing it would be like fully loosing her, and he knew it wouldn't be able to fully do that.

the other letters had been safely tucked into his pack, the crisp white sheets protected by the thick material of his bag. if he ever seen the others again, he'd give them to who they belonged to. he owed that much to them. his boots thumped against the green grass, eyes spotting carol and tyrese who were softly talking between one another.

before they weren't talking, now they were running. lee was puzzled yet ran too, his legs pushing quickly as he raced to the group. his steps slowed as he caught sight of what made the two run, he felt bile rise in his throat, his face went pale. blood stained lizzys hands, her knife clutched tightly in her right and a smile on her face as she looked between the three. micas lifeless body laid in the grass behind her, her skin pale and blood staining her shirt where the blade had gone through, dead center of her stomach.
