The hallways of Split River High School buzzed with the usual chatter, laughter, and hurried footsteps of students trying to get to their classes. Among them was Y/N, a bright and curious student who always seemed to be caught in the most peculiar situations. Today was no different. As she navigated her way through the crowded hall, a strange chill ran down her spine. She had felt this sensation before, but today it was stronger, almost as if someone was trying to reach out to her.
Y/N shook off the feeling and quickened her pace, heading towards the library. It was her sanctuary, a place where she could escape the chaos of high school life and dive into the comforting world of books. As she rounded the corner, she nearly collided with another student.
"Sorry!" she exclaimed, stepping back.
The boy she nearly ran into was Wally Clark. He had an aura about him that was hard to describe—ethereal, almost otherworldly. He smiled at her, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still.
"No worries," Wally replied, his voice smooth and calming. "Are you okay?"
Y/N nodded, her cheeks flushing slightly. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just in a hurry."
Wally chuckled softly. "You always seem to be in a hurry, Y/N."
She blinked, surprised. "You know my name?"
"Of course," Wally said, his smile widening. "You're one of the few people who spends more time in the library than the cafeteria."
Y/N laughed, feeling more at ease. "Guilty as charged. It's my favourite place in the school."
"Mine too," Wally said, his eyes twinkling with a hint of mischief. "Mind if I join you today?"
Y/N hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Sure, why not?"
Together, they walked to the library. As they entered the quiet, book-filled room, Y/N couldn't shake the feeling that there was something different about Wally. He seemed to glide more than walk, and there was a faint glow about him that she couldn't quite place.
They settled into a corner table, and Wally pulled out a book from his backpack. Y/N noticed it was a history book about Split River High.
"Doing some research?" she asked, curious.
Wally nodded. "Yeah, you could say that. I'm fascinated by the history of this place."
Y/N leaned in, intrigued. "Anything interesting you've found?"
Wally's expression turned serious. "A lot, actually. This school has a lot of secrets."
Y/N raised an eyebrow. "Secrets? Like what?"
Wally hesitated, then said, "Do you believe in ghosts, Y/N?"
She was taken aback by the question. "Ghosts? I don't know. I mean, I've never seen one, but I guess it's possible."
Wally leaned closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. "What if I told you that this school is haunted?"
Y/N's eyes widened. "Haunted? By who?"
"By students who never left," Wally said softly. "Students who died here and are still trying to find peace."
A shiver ran down Y/N's spine. "That's... that's creepy."
Wally nodded. "I know. But it's true."
Y/N studied Wally's face, searching for any sign that he was joking. But his eyes were sincere, and she felt a strange connection to him that she couldn't explain.
