"You know," Sabine said, ducking under a low-hanging crystal formation, "when Ahsoka said this would be an easy reconnaissance mission, I should have known better."
Y/N followed close behind, his lightsaber casting a soft blue glow through the crystalline cave system of Pasaana. "At least the view is nice," he replied, though his eyes weren't on the glittering walls.
Sabine caught his gaze and smirked. "Focus on the mission, Jedi."
"Former Jedi," he corrected with a smile. "And I am focused. Just... multitasking."
Their playful banter echoed slightly through the cavern as they made their way deeper into the system. Intelligence suggested that Imperial loyalists were using these caves to store weapons, but so far, they'd found nothing but pristine crystal formations and the occasional native creature.
"Wait," Y/N suddenly whispered, throwing out an arm to stop Sabine. His Force sensitivity tingled with warning. "Something's wrong."
Before Sabine could respond, a distant explosion rocked the cave. Dust and small crystals rained down from above.
"Move!" Sabine shouted, grabbing Y/N's hand and pulling him forward as larger rocks began to fall. They sprinted through the tunnel, the sound of collapsing rock chasing them deeper into the cave system.
Y/N used the Force to deflect falling debris while Sabine led them through the twisting passages. They rounded a corner just as a massive cave-in sealed the tunnel behind them.
When the dust settled, they found themselves in a large chamber lit by bioluminescent crystals. The beauty of it would have been breathtaking if not for their current situation.
"Well," Sabine coughed, brushing dust from her armour, "that's not good."
Y/N ignited his lightsaber again, illuminating their surroundings. "Are you hurt?"
"I'm fine," she assured him, checking her gear. "But we're definitely trapped. That explosion wasn't natural - someone knew we were coming."
Y/N nodded grimly. "At least we have airflow. I can feel a breeze from somewhere, but..." He walked the perimeter of the chamber, examining the walls. "These walls are too thick to cut through with my lightsaber, and the debris blocking our way back is unstable. If we try to clear it..."
"The whole thing could come down on us," Sabine finished. She pulled out her communicator. "Let's hope this still works." After a moment of static, a familiar voice came through.
"Sabine? Y/N? What's happened?" Ahsoka's concerned voice crackled through the device.
"We're trapped in the cave system," Sabine reported. "There was an explosion - definitely planned. We're safe for now, but we need extraction."
"Send me your coordinates," Ahsoka replied. "I'm a few hours out, but I'll get there as fast as I can. Stay put and conserve your power sources."
After transmitting their location, Sabine sat down on a relatively smooth rock. "Well, looks like we've got some time to kill."
Y/N powered down his lightsaber to save energy, leaving them in the soft blue-green glow of the crystal formations. He settled beside her, their shoulders touching. "At least we're trapped together."
Sabine turned to him, her expression softening. "You know, a few weeks ago, being trapped in a cave with an ex-Jedi would not have been my idea of a good time."
