The music pulsed through Titans Tower, the beat reverberating off the massive windows overlooking Jump City's glittering skyline. Cyborg had outdone himself this time, transforming the usually austere common room into a pulsing dance floor complete with strobe lights and a holographic DJ booth.

Y/N leaned against the kitchen counter, nursing a soda and watching the crowd with amusement. As Cyborg's best friend, he'd been to plenty of these superhero shindigs before, but there was always something surreal about seeing Earth's mightiest defenders letting loose on the dance floor.

"Hey, Y/N!" Cyborg's booming voice cut through the music as he approached, a wide grin on his face. "Glad you could make it, man!"

Y/N grinned back, bumping fists with his cybernetic friend. "Wouldn't miss it, Cy. You've really outdone yourself this time."

"You know it!" Cyborg beamed, then leaned in conspiratorially. "But check it out - we've got a special guest tonight."

Following Cyborg's gaze, Y/N's eyes landed on a striking young woman with long black hair and piercing violet eyes that matched her dress. She stood apart from the crowd, her arms crossed and a scowl on her face that somehow only enhanced her beauty.

"Whoa," Y/N breathed. "Who's that?"

"That," Cyborg said with a mix of excitement and trepidation, "is Blackfire. Starfire's sister."

Y/N's eyebrows shot up. He'd heard stories about Starfire's infamous older sibling, none of them particularly flattering. "I thought she was, you know... not exactly on friendly terms with the Titans?"

Cyborg shrugged. "Star's been trying to patch things up. Figured inviting her to the party might help break the ice. But..." he glanced over at Blackfire, who was glaring daggers at anyone who dared approach her, "...she doesn't seem to be enjoying herself much."

Y/N felt a sudden urge to change that. "Maybe she just needs some company."

Cyborg looked at him sceptically. "You sure about that, man? Blackfire's got a bit of a... reputation."

"Hey, I've dealt with you at your grumpiest," Y/N teased. "How bad could she be?"

With a shake of his head and a chuckle, Cyborg clapped Y/N on the shoulder. "Your funeral, buddy. But hey, if anyone can get her to lighten up, it's you."

Taking a deep breath, Y/N made his way across the room towards Blackfire. As he approached, her violet eyes locked onto him, narrowing slightly.

"Hi there," Y/N said, flashing his most disarming smile. "I'm Y/N. Cyborg's friend."

Blackfire raised an eyebrow. "Fascinating," she drawled, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "And I suppose you drew the short straw to come talk to the scary alien?"
