Fem Y/N
The cherry blossoms drifted lazily through the morning air as Y/N made her way up the steps to Shujin Academy. Like any other spring morning, students clustered in small groups around the courtyard, their animated chatter filling the air with the familiar buzz of school life. But today felt different somehow – there was an undercurrent of excitement, whispered rumors about a new transfer student who would be joining them.
Y/N hadn't paid much attention to the gossip at first. Transfer students weren't uncommon in Tokyo, after all. But as she approached the school entrance, she caught sight of him – a tall, lean figure with unruly black hair and glasses, standing somewhat apart from the others as he studied what appeared to be a class schedule. There was something striking about him, a quiet intensity that seemed to set him apart from the usual bustle of student life.
He looked lost, though he was clearly trying not to show it. Y/N had always had a soft spot for new students, remembering her own first day and how overwhelming it had felt. Before she could think twice about it, she found herself changing course to approach him.
"Excuse me," she said, offering a friendly smile. "You look like you could use some help finding your way around."
He looked up, and Y/N felt her breath catch slightly. Behind those glasses were the most penetrating eyes she'd ever seen – dark and intelligent, with a hint of something mysterious lurking in their depths. For a moment, he seemed to study her, as if weighing whether to accept her offer of assistance.
"That would be helpful," he finally replied, his voice soft but clear. "I'm Ren Amamiya."
"Y/N," she introduced herself with a small bow. "May I see your schedule? I can show you where your classroom is."
He handed over the paper, and their fingers brushed briefly. Y/N tried to ignore the small flutter in her stomach at the contact. As she examined his schedule, she realized he'd been assigned to Class 2-D – just down the hall from her own classroom.
"You're in luck," she said brightly. "You're right next to my class. Come on, I'll show you around."
What started as a simple offer to help turned into a full tour of Shujin Academy. Y/N found herself pointing out all the important landmarks – the library, the faculty office, the cafeteria, and even her favourite quiet spot near the courtyard where she sometimes ate lunch. Throughout it all, she found herself drawn into conversation with Ren. Though quiet at first, he proved to be an attentive listener and surprisingly witty when he did speak.
"The vending machines here have the best coffee in the school," she explained as they passed through one of the halls. "Though that's not saying much – it's still vending machine coffee."
"I work part-time at a coffee shop," Ren mentioned, the corner of his mouth quirking up slightly. "I'm becoming something of a coffee snob."
Y/N laughed. "Then you'll definitely want to avoid the vending machines. There's a nice café in Shibuya that I can recommend instead..."
As they walked and talked, Y/N began to notice little things about him – the way he would occasionally reach up to adjust his glasses when thinking, how his shoulders would relax slightly when she made him laugh, the graceful way he moved through the crowded hallways. There was something captivating about him, something that made her want to know more.
The rumours she'd heard whispered in the hallways – about his criminal record, about why he'd transferred – seemed impossible to reconcile with the gentle, thoughtful boy walking beside her. Y/N found herself wondering about the truth behind those rumours, but something held her back from asking. Whatever his past might be, she wanted to form her own opinions based on who he was now.
Time seemed to flow differently in his presence. Before she knew it, the warning bell was ringing, signalling that classes would begin soon. They had completed their circuit of the school and were standing in a quiet corner near Class 2-D.
"Thank you," Ren said softly, turning to face her. "For everything. Most people wouldn't have gone out of their way like this."
Y/N felt her cheeks warm slightly under his intense gaze. "It was nothing, really. I remember how overwhelming the first day can be."
"It wasn't nothing," he insisted, taking a step closer. The hallway suddenly felt very quiet, very intimate. "You showed me kindness when you didn't have to. When most people would have avoided me entirely."
Y/N's heart began to race as she realized how close they were standing. She could see flecks of grey in his dark eyes, could smell the faint scent of coffee and something uniquely him. "I don't believe in judging people before I know them," she managed to say.
Ren's expression softened, and something in his eyes shifted. Before Y/N could process what was happening, he had closed the distance between them. His hand came up to gently cup her cheek, and then his lips were pressing against hers in a soft, sweet kiss.
Time seemed to stop. The kiss was gentle, almost hesitant, but filled with an underlying warmth that made Y/N's knees weak. His lips were soft against hers, and she found herself melting into the contact, her hands instinctively coming up to rest against his chest. She could feel his heart beating rapidly under her palm, matching the frantic rhythm of her own.
When they finally pulled apart, Y/N's head was spinning. Ren's cheeks were slightly flushed, but his eyes were bright and intense as they met hers. His thumb brushed gently across her cheekbone before his hand fell away.
"Sorry," he murmured, though he didn't look particularly apologetic. "I'm not usually so forward. You just... you make me want to be brave."
Y/N felt a smile bloom across her face, warm and genuine. "Don't apologize. I'm glad you were brave."
The final warning bell rang, startling them both back to reality. Students were hurrying to their classrooms, and they knew they needed to do the same. But neither of them moved immediately, caught in this moment between them.
"Would you..." Ren started, then paused, adjusting his glasses in that endearing way she was coming to recognize. "Would you like to get coffee after school? Real coffee, not from the vending machines?"
Y/N's smile widened. "I'd love to. I know just the place."
As they finally headed to their respective classrooms, Y/N couldn't help but touch her lips, still tingling from the kiss. She had offered to help the new transfer student out of simple kindness, never expecting that this one act would lead to something so special. As she slipped into her seat, she found herself looking forward to the end of the day, to learning more about the mysterious Ren Amamiya.
