The stars were just beginning to twinkle as Clawhauser bounced excitedly on his toes outside the upscale restaurant, a grin stretched wide across his face. His usual police uniform was traded in for a charming navy blazer and a pink bow tie that complemented his cheerful personality. Chief Bogo stood beside him, looking sharp in a tailored suit that somehow made his imposing frame even more formidable. His stoic expression softened every now and then as his gaze flickered to Clawhauser or to the figure approaching them—Y/N.
Y/N, a floofy wolf with soft grey and white fur that fluffed out in a way that made him look perpetually huggable, strode toward them, his ears perked up with excitement. His outfit was understated but well-chosen: a light sweater that complemented his fur and slacks that gave him an effortlessly classy air. His hands, which often fidgeted when he was nervous or excited, played with the hem of his sweater.
"Y/N!" Clawhauser exclaimed, rushing forward to greet him with an exuberant hug. The cheetah's arms wrapped around him like a warm blanket, and Y/N let out a soft laugh, his tail wagging in response.
"Good evening, Clawhauser," Y/N replied warmly before looking up at Bogo. "Chief."
"Just Bogo tonight," the buffalo rumbled, his gruff voice tinged with a rare softness. He gave Y/N a small smile, placing a steadying hand on his shoulder. "Glad you could join us."
Y/N blushed under his fur, his ears twitching. "I wouldn't miss it."
The trio entered the restaurant, an elegant place with soft lighting and cosy booths. Clawhauser was nearly vibrating with excitement as they were seated at a corner table, the perfect spot for an intimate dinner. Y/N appreciated the quieter setting, the gentle hum of conversation around them far from overwhelming.
The evening began with appetizers, and Clawhauser immediately insisted they share everything. "We're a team tonight!" he declared, sliding a plate of bruschetta toward Y/N. "Try this! It's amazing!"
Y/N chuckled and obligingly took a bite. "You're right," he said, his tail swishing happily. "This is really good."
"Here," Bogo said, his large hands surprisingly gentle as he offered Y/N a forkful of pasta from his plate. Y/N leaned forward, his eyes meeting Bogo's as he took the bite. The rich flavours were perfect, but what lingered most was the warmth in Bogo's gaze.
Clawhauser wasn't about to be outdone. "Okay, my turn!" He held up a fork with a morsel of steak on it. "Open up, big guy."
Y/N laughed, a soft huff escaping him as he allowed Clawhauser to feed him. The cheetah beamed, his tail swishing so vigorously it nearly knocked over his water glass.
As the meal went on, the trio exchanged bites, laughter, and stories. Clawhauser regaled them with tales of his most embarrassing moments at the precinct, complete with dramatic reenactments, while Bogo shook his head in amused exasperation. Y/N chimed in with a few anecdotes of his own, his voice gaining confidence as he saw how intently his companions listened.
When dessert arrived, it was a platter of assorted doughnuts, a nod to Clawhauser and Bogo's shared love of the treat. "This is perfect!" Clawhauser exclaimed, his eyes sparkling as he grabbed a powdered doughnut and held it up to Y/N's mouth. "For you, darling."
Y/N blushed again but took the bite, the sweetness of the powdered sugar contrasting with the sweetness in Clawhauser's gaze. He returned the gesture, holding up a chocolate doughnut for Clawhauser, who accepted it with a delighted hum.
Bogo chuckled, his deep voice rumbling as he watched the exchange. "You two are incorrigible," he muttered, though the fondness in his tone betrayed him.
"Your turn," Y/N said softly, holding a jelly-filled doughnut up to Bogo. The buffalo hesitated for only a moment before leaning down, his eyes never leaving Y/N's as he took a bite. Y/N's heart fluttered at the rare sight of Bogo's lips curving into a small but genuine smile.
After dinner, the trio made their way to the Gazelle concert. Clawhauser was practically skipping, his enthusiasm infectious. "This is going to be amazing!" he said, clutching his Gazelle-themed scarf like a prized possession.
Y/N was a bit more apprehensive. Large crowds and loud noises could be overwhelming, and while he was excited, he knew he might need a moment to adjust. Bogo noticed his slight hesitation and placed a reassuring hand on his back. "If it gets to be too much, let us know," he said quietly. "We'll step out."
Y/N nodded, grateful for the consideration.
The concert venue was bustling with energy, fans decked out in Gazelle merchandise waving glow sticks and cheering. Clawhauser was in his element, his excitement reaching new heights as the lights dimmed and the music began. Y/N took a deep breath, grounding himself in the steady presence of his companions. Bogo stood on one side, a silent sentinel, while Clawhauser held Y/N's hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
Gazelle's performance was electrifying, her voice soaring over the crowd as she danced with her tiger backup dancers. Y/N found himself relaxing, the music washing over him in waves. Clawhauser sang along to every word, his joy so palpable that Y/N couldn't help but smile.
During a quieter song, Bogo leaned down to murmur in Y/N's ear. "How are you holding up?"
Y/N turned to him, his smile soft. "I'm good. Thanks to you two."
Clawhauser caught the exchange and immediately threw an arm around Y/N's shoulders. "Isn't this the best? Sharing this with you guys makes it even more special."
Y/N felt his heart swell with warmth. He leaned into Clawhauser's side, his tail brushing against Bogo's leg. The simple gesture of connection spoke volumes.
As the concert neared its end, Gazelle began a heartfelt ballad, and the crowd swayed in unison. Clawhauser reached for Y/N's hand again, and Bogo did the same on the other side. The three of them stood together, a quiet bubble of love in the midst of the bustling crowd.
When the song ended, Clawhauser turned to Y/N, his expression uncharacteristically serious. "You make me so happy," he said, his voice barely audible over the cheering crowd.
Y/N's eyes widened, his heart thudding in his chest. Before he could respond, Clawhauser leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to Y/N's cheek. Y/N's tail wagged furiously, his ears flattening in shy delight.
Bogo watched the exchange with a gentle smile before stepping closer. "You're remarkable," he said simply, cupping Y/N's face with one large hand. He leaned down and kissed Y/N on the forehead, the gesture full of quiet affection.
Y/N felt overwhelmed, but in the best way possible. He reached out, pulling both Clawhauser and Bogo into a hug. "I... I don't know what to say," he admitted, his voice muffled against Bogo's shoulder.
"Just say you'll keep spending nights like this with us," Clawhauser said, his voice thick with emotion.
"Always," Y/N replied, his voice steady despite the happy tears welling in his eyes.
The trio walked home under the light of the moon, the cool night air a refreshing contrast to the heat of the concert. Clawhauser held one of Y/N's hands while Bogo held the other, their steps in sync.
"Best night ever," Clawhauser declared, his grin as wide as ever.
Bogo chuckled, his deep voice rumbling. "I have to agree."
Y/N looked between the two of them, his heart full. "Thank you for tonight. Both of you."
"No," Clawhauser said, stopping to pull Y/N into another hug. "Thank you for being you."
Bogo stood beside them, his hand resting on Y/N's shoulder. "He's right. You're... special."
Y/N looked up at them, his smile radiant. "And you two are the best thing that's ever happened to me."
The night ended with one final kiss, a promise of many more evenings filled with love, laughter, and shared doughnuts.
