Three weeks had passed since the Baudelaire children had come to live with Y/N, and the workshop had never been more alive with creativity. Violet and her uncle had developed a comfortable routine of morning invention sessions, with Klaus often reading technical manuals nearby and Sunny testing the durability of various materials with her impressive teeth.

That particular morning, however, brought an unexpected visitor. The doorbell rang just as Y/N and Violet were putting the finishing touches on their latest creation - an automated security system that could detect and catalog all movement around the house's perimeter.

"How fortuitous," the visitor proclaimed when Y/N opened the door. "I am Dr. Stephano Montgomery, a renowned security systems inspector. I couldn't help but notice your charming home could use a professional security evaluation."

Y/N studied the man carefully. Despite the fake beard, white coat, and attempted Italian accent, he could clearly see Count Olaf's distinctive features - particularly that single eyebrow barely hidden beneath layers of makeup. Y/N had spent enough time reviewing Olaf's theatrical headshots (part of his background research when fighting for custody) to recognize him in any disguise.

But Y/N was an engineer, and engineers know that sometimes the best way to disable a trap is to let it spring on your terms.

"How interesting," Y/N replied smoothly. "Please, come into my study. We can discuss security measures over tea."

As he led "Dr. Montgomery" inside, Y/N caught Violet's eye and gave her their secret signal - three quick taps on his wrist, their code for "invention time." Violet's hand immediately went to her ribbon, and she nodded almost imperceptibly before slipping away.

In the study, Olaf launched into an elaborate monologue about modern security systems, his accent slipping occasionally. Y/N kept him talking, asking detailed technical questions that clearly flustered the fraudulent doctor. But more importantly, Y/N was watching the security monitor he and Violet had installed under his desk just days before.

The screen showed exactly what he'd expected: members of Olaf's theatre troupe attempting to sneak around the property's perimeter. The Hook-Handed Man was trying to scale the garden wall, while the White-Faced Women were approaching the back door. But Y/N wasn't worried. He and Violet had prepared for this.

Meanwhile, in the workshop, Violet was in her element. "Klaus, activate Protocol Unfortunate!" she called out to her brother, who was already pulling levers on their recently installed security console. Sunny, perched safely in her specially designed high chair (complete with safety harness and observation dome), clapped her tiny hands in excitement.

The first trap triggered when the Hook-Handed Man reached the top of the garden wall. The motion sensors detected his presence, activating what appeared to be ordinary garden sprinklers. However, these sprinklers, modified by Violet and Y/N, sprayed a sticky solution of their own invention - a non-toxic but extremely adhesive substance that would take hours to dissolve.

"Caramel!" Sunny shrieked in delight, which probably meant something like "The Hook-Handed Man appears to be stuck to our wall!"

The White-Faced Women faced a different challenge at the back door. When they attempted to pick the lock, they triggered another of Violet and Y/N's inventions - a mechanism that released a cloud of harmless but extremely bright phosphorescent powder. The women, now glowing like human nightlights, stumbled away from the door in confusion.

Inside the study, Y/N was having trouble maintaining a straight face as he watched the chaos unfold on his monitor. Olaf, still deep in his terrible Italian accent, was explaining the importance of "proper-a door locks, mama mia" when a series of theatrical shrieks from outside made him jump.
