Chapter 42
I heard someone knocking on the door, "come in" I said.
"How are you feeling? You are completely fit now, the doctor stopped your medications" My mom said and sat on the bed beside me.
I nodded unaware of what else to do.
"Wanna come out for a walk with me?" She asked.
"No."
She let out a deep sigh. She tapped on her lap telling me to lay my head on her and I did.
"Let me tell you a story. It is about a wife and a husband. The wife got married to the husband solely for one reason, money, she needed money for her mother's cancer treatment. The wife in the initial days of her marriage, didn't interact much with her husband, she didn't like him. The wife wanted to marry a well-educated man but the husband wasn't much educated and was involved in illegal work. Slowly she fell in love with her husband seeing his care for her and her parents. But all of a sudden, the husband stopped paying the medical bills of the wife's mother. He broke the promise he made to his wife. She was very angry and disappointed with him. She started to distance herself from him again. After a few months, the wife's mother's health deteriorated and she passed away. The wife blamed her husband for her mother's death. She hated him, and he suffered a lot because of it. She wanted to punish her husband for going back on his word. So she gave the details about her husband's illegal work to the police and he was jailed. The wife thought she would be satisfied with what she did but she felt nothing but remorse. Later she found out, it was her mother who asked him to stop giving money for the treatment. The mother was in great pain and saw no improvement in her health condition, so she decided to give up the treatment. The husband didn't tell the wife the truth because he didn't want the wife to think that her mother gave up on her, so he remained silent and bore all the blame." She narrated the story while caressing my hair.
"The husband deserved better" I blurted out the first thing that came to my mind.
"He did," my mother said with a sad smile.
"What happened next?" I asked my mother.
"The wife felt guilty and decided to seek forgiveness from her husband. And the husband without a second thought accepted her back and treated her with the same love and respect as he did before" she said.
"Why? Didn't he deserve better than her?" I asked her.
"The wife asked him the same question. He said he wanted her and not someone better. He accepted all her flaws and loved all her imperfections" she said and kissed me on my forehead.
"The wife loved the husband right, then why didn't she trust him?" I asked.
I was trying to seek the answers for my broken relationship.
"Sometimes just love isn't enough. Love is very important but isn't enough" she said.
"But love should make everything perfect. Take you and Dad as an example. You guys always trust each other, and never fight at all."
