a very, very long night

"Loki"

I hear the Lady's voice call from down the long corridor.

"Loki?"

She repeats, popping her head around the door, her soft, dark curls falling around her face.

"Sif."

I hum in reply, patting the bed beside me as she excitedly jumps onto it, my book almost falling out my hands. I sink into the silk, emerald pillows, placing the dusty 'Romeo and Juliet' copy on the bedside table.

"It's Thor's birthday tomorrow, and I was planning a massive surprise party, but I will need a hand setting up the hall. Fandral, Volstagg and Hogan are taking him down to a pub in the old town tonight, so he'll be perfectly distracted-"

I groan.

"Really, all that, for Thor?"

Sif scoffs in reply, pushing my knee teasingly.

"oh dont pretend you dont love him"

My brows furrow.

"your helping me, end off. Meet me at the hall at 9pm. Got it?"

She grins, looking at me with wide eyes. I simply nod before gently shoving her off my bed, smiling as she runs out the room, giggling like an excited teenage girl.

9PM  : The Royal Haul : Sif's POV

I sarcastically gasp as I hear the tapping of Loki's boot heels in the short distance, walking over to him holding a huge bundle of golden balloons.

"your mother just left, she helped me with the banners."

I say, looking up at him, somehow only just realising how tall he is.

He hums, looking around the room, which is dimly lit by the small flames of the torches.

"I saw her on my way here, she told me to behave and not piss you off as she prefers your.. bubbly mood."

The god mutters.

"prefers my bubbly mood?"

I repeat with fake offence, pressing my hand to my chest melodramatically.

"Am I not always this happy?"

He shakes his head with a low chuckle.

"oh norns no, certainly not."

I purse my lips.

"its not exactly the worst thing, it makes it much easier to tolerate you-"

Loki adds on, nudging my arm playfully.

"Now what is it exactly you need my help with? I dont have all night. I'm a busy man."

"oh as if-" I snort

"I beg your pardon?"

"you just want to get out of here as soon as possible to stick your nose into a fancy book-"

His eyes narrow down at me.

"is that truly how you speak to a prince?"

"as a matter of fact, yes, yes it is."

I smirk, scrunching my nose at him.

"Right then, I need these banners put on the mirror above the fireplace, neither me or Frigga could reach up there. Then I need the rest of the presents wrapped up, they dont need to be perfect so dont stress it, and-"

I'm swiftly cut off by Loki's incoherent mumble.

"anything you'd like to say?" I ask sternly.

"no, no, carry on."

He says, waving his hand in the air. Such a prince.

"-and I need these flower baskets put on the feast table."

I finish, after being butted into so impolitely.

He raises his eyebrows, his eyes closing as he stretches out his arms.

"dont we have maids for these types of things-"

I shake my head.

"Its past their working hours Loki."

Confusion etches across his face.

"its their job- if we need them now then-"

"Loki. This is for your brother. Its different if a maid does it, thats why we're doing it, for him, not us."

He blankly blinks at me.

"How sentimental." he practically spits.

"come on grump, get to work."

Loki's POV

The night gets later as we decorate and prepare the hall. Sif not long ago put on a playlist, the quiet music humming in the background as I fix the flowers that have drooped in their baskets.

"where did you get these?"

I mumble, looking at the bunches of roses and peonies.

"I picked them," Sif says with a smile on her face.

"the forest near the lakes has so many beautiful flowers. Me and Fandral went down there the other day and picked the prettiest ones."

I nod, feeling quite tired as the long day catches up with me.

I catch Sif's eyes lingering on me for a little too long.

"what?" I mutter.

she just bites her lip, walking towards me. Its not long until shes stood in front of me, her soft hands cupping my face as she looks down with a gentle expression.

"youre very pretty"

she whispers.

"am I?"

I laugh, my eyes meeting hers.

"yes, yes you are..."

She continues, fumbling over her words as her cheeks flush red at the eye contact.

"I could certainly say the same about you... but I'm not quite sure I'm in the mood to-"

I tease, grinning at her quiet huff.

"do you have to be such a tease all the time?"

Her hands move from my face as she crouches to my level, where I'm sat on the chair.

"its my special talen-"

My words are quickly broken as her lips crash into mine, her hands in my curls.

"t...thats one way to keep me quiet"

I chuckle gently into the kiss, standing from the chair, hands wandering to her waist as I pull her closer to me, keeping my lips glued to hers.

"I have many other ways I'd like to try once we've finished in this room."

she groans, a sudden raspy-ness in her voice.

And that was the beginning of a very, very long night.
